Brigden Fall Fair

Brigden Fall FairThe weather was nice so we decided to drive up to the Brigden Fair today. We have never been to this classic country fair and it was a treat that shouldn’t be missed. Everything including livestock judging, machinery displays, craft exhibitions, helicopter rides, motocross stunt show, midway rides, and the classically hokey tractor square dance. They expected around 70k attendance and it looked to be well on it’s way to achieving their goal.

We strolled the grounds and looked at the machinery (Martha liked the little Kubotas) and then toured all the holiday RV trailers on display. We couldn’t believe how many different models were available and how expensive they have become. I’m glad we had fun camping with our 5th wheel trailer when we did, because I don’t think it would happen now.

Next up was the livestock barns and Martha had a blast petting all the animals and talking with their proud owners. She questioned an old burly farmer, “how did you come about choosing the Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle breed as the one to raise?” He sheepishly answered, “well, they were the only ones that came up to the fence when we were looking for breeder stock”. Martha thought that was endearing since it sounded like he was picking out a new puppy, not a 1200lb animal.

Martha purchased some fresh squeezed hot cider to share and we continued to weave our way through all the livestock barns and into the craft exhibit building. I’m not a craft type person but they also had the animals that supplied their raw products present. Angora rabbits, alpaca, sheep, and more were mixed among the craft displays, spinning wheels, and looms.

The motocross stunt show closed off our visit to the fair and after we left, Martha wanted to mark off a couple nearby geocaches. We stopping for supper at Brigden’s own Grandfather’s Pizza & Family Restaurant and were received home by a very happy cat around 8pm. Check out some of Martha’s pictures below or use this picasa album link.

  1. It’s nice when you city folks get to see the rural life. My KUBOTA is a little bigger than a city zero-turn grass cutter, but it’s nice to see the city meet the country. Looks like a great visit!
