Day Trippin

Today we discovered the hotels roof top terrace hot tub and pool. Beautiful spot with a great view of the city. The water temp was just delightful and you could walk right in. I was very comfortable and did not swell one bit. The outside temp is in the 70s, just perfect for walking, no sun, low clouds and slight threat of rain. We are finding it quite humid but just happy to be able to wear shorts and t-shirts.

We walked quite a bit today and stopped at The Sporting House Cafe. No it did not have anything to do with hockey, baseball or the Hornets basketball team. We had lunch at an old bordello. I had my first Po-boy sandwich which is like a sub only on french bread. It was grilled chicken, swiss cheese, hickory smoked bacon, guacamole, tomatoes and cheese. Tom had a entree called Temptation Island which was a seafood salad with lots of Louisiana style boiled shrimp, nestled on a bed of penne pasta, on salad greens, onions, black olives and artichoke hearts. It was served with a delicious spicy sauce called jalepeno aioli dressing. The waiter looked and talked just like Will Smith. We indulged in a desert called Pan Par Do Pudding which was bread pudding with whipped cream, sprinkled with cinnamon. The coffee down here is a very strong chickory coffee. Much like Granny used to make only with no grounds at the bottom of your cup.
We ventured along Canal Street picked up a card reader and went through an art store that sold persian rugs, jade statues and paintings. Much out of our league or taste. It was let’s make a deal but the deals were in the $thousands. We ended our afternoon at the famous Acme Oyster Bar in the French Quarter. After slurping a dozen oysters and a mug of cold beer we headed back to the hotel for a *nap* :) then gear up for the night’s festivities.

  1. Hi there. Did you know that your server rejected my entries earlier for leud comments. I was referring to the delightful cuisine that you were indulging in. ps I didn’t think that eating oyseters made you sleepy?

  2. The place must be hopping if you guys are getting home and logging on at 2am. We are preparing for a big storm today with predicted high winds and 25-30cm of snow. Enjoy the warm weather while you can.

  3. The snow did not materialize as they had predicted. I still got out and shoveled the driveway before Nick got home from work. We are all watching the Leafs tonight on tv. I’ve got a coffee in one hand and an Irish mist liquor in the other.

  4. What a great looking hotel! How’s the beads collection going? Just came back from a day trip to Rosen Lake. Pictures successfully uploaded.
    The big five O tomorrow.
