Upper New York Road Trip

Tom and I are in Lake George New York right now. On a spur of the moment we hopped in the truck and headed east. Laura decided to stay home and cat sit.

We entered into the States at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge which ended up being a poor choice. What a bummer – there was a two hour holdup on the bridge so that cut into our driving time. Thank goodness we had made a pit stop and gassed up on the Canadian side. We did get a good look at the Niagara River gorge and the hydro plant though!

We stayed the first night at a lovely town called Canadaigua. It is the thumb lake of the finger lakes. We managed to find the historical McGregor’s Grill & Tap Room [image] and had a lovely supper and a few pints of beer. I tried their cherry ale that tasted like beer but smelled more like Dr Pepper. This is a very beautiful area of New York and surprising enough had not to much congestion or traffic. It is considered the wine district of NY with vineyards and wineries dotted along the various lake shores. It is very much like the Haliburton area with all the lakes and small touristy towns. We have been in this area before on the back of Tom’s ST 1100 motorcycle many moons ago (+decade) and it brought back many fond memories.

The roads in NY are amazing and a good example of well managed toll road dollars. We ran into rain as we passed through Albany but is was all done by the time we got to Glens Falls . The Adirondack mountains are a change to see after the flat landscapes of Kent County. We noticed the hint of pine in the clear air when we got to Lake George.

When we arrived at the hotel our room was not quite ready… not to worry we gladly headed to the pool and hot tub to have a refreshing swim and a soak. It was well worth the wait because we have a lovely big suite with two queen sized beds. So far lots of fun! [images]
