On June 2 Uncle Ted made a stop over in Toronto to visit his two favourite nieces. He was venturing off to Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania and then across the Baltic Sea to Finland. Uncle Ted has an interest in this part of the world. Lithuania once was a great empire. Many historians believe that the Lithuanians and Greeks are descended from the same early Aryans. Today it is a small land of farms, forests and lakes. Its people have strong national traditions and a rich culture. Their language is the oldest living tongue in Europe.
We took Uncle Ted out for supper to a Barracuda?s and shared many stories. On Monday, Eileen and I took him to Oakville to stroll the historical streets, sit on a bench overlooking Lake Ontario and enjoy lunch and a cup of tea together. I was nice seeing him again.
We had a quick whirlwind visit and had a wonderful time together, sharing jokes, stories and family ponderings.
