Beautiful Bowen Island

Martha, Laura, TeenyLaura and I were welcomed at the airport with royal waves and smiles by Mo and Jo. Our visit was short as we made the car exchange, then Laura and I were off to tackle traffic across the Burrard Street Bridge to Horseshoe Bay. David had given us great directions and we did a little sightseeing along the way. We caught the 3:30 ferry and found ourselves crossing the Salish Seas with blue skies and calm waters towards paradise!

We arrived at the cottage to find Auntie Teeny excited to see us. This happy reunion called for “happy hour”. We had martinis on the patio, watching the boats coming and going and shared family stories. Both Laura and I are thrilled to be here. The sea air is clear with no humidity and the scent of cedar says welcome back! Check out our 2006 Bowen photo album here.

CHEERS!

Cheers!

  1. bowen_eileen.jpg“Oh Bowen Isle, oh Bowen Isle I will remember you!” I have tears rolling down my cheeks as I’m writing this because your visit looks so inviting and I know that I missed the boat. Thanks Martha, I can smell the cedars too.

  2. It all looks and sounds so great Martha. I Wish I was there to share Bowen with you once again. :vacation:

  3. Hi Gang – certainly looks wonderful and the weather is even more so. What a beautiful site – when the weather is great!. How special you and Laura have made this for Aunty T. – can’t believe how this weather has stuck for you guys – you must be blessed by God (I told you that you were Saints, Martha and Laura!) Keep up the good work and we’ll talk before you leave the lovely Bowen Isle. Talk soon from the Head Cousins George and Louise (that is only because we are the oldest!!)

  4. Hey – did you guys receive my e-mail – I am such a klutz when it comes to these things. Talk soon.

  5. Yesterday we toured around the island and ended up at Doc Morgan’s for a tasty halibut lunch. You can not come to Bowen without sitting on the deck for fish and chips and a Granville Island ale. It brought back memories when everyone was together to celebrate Auntie T’s birthday.

  6. We awoke again today to blue sky and warm temperatures.I can not believe how we lucked out on this marvelous weather! We headed out to the Artisan Square and purchased a Bowen Island print of Deep Bay and the mountains. There are quite a few sail boats anchored in Deep Bay and Snug Cove is a buzz as tonight is the annual Fireman’s Dock dance. We are at the library making our posts which makes it handy. The cove is filled with vendors selling arts and crafts so maybe we will pick something up. Tomorrow we will go to Crippen Park for the Sunday concert in the park. We are off to the little beach by the lagoon.

  7. Martha have you scoped out Chris Corrigan yet? You can’t go to Bowen without an introduction

  8. I called Chris this morning and we had a good chat. He gave us directions to where we could find the infamous “Huckleberries”. Too late a season for Salmonberries though. As it turned out the best patch was found right across the street from St Gerard’s Church.
Laura and I went this morning to visit a local artist Bill Hoopes on Lenora. He signed the picture I bought at Artisan Square. It is of Deep Bay looking out across the sound towards the mountains entitled 3AM. Bill used to be the baker at the bistro but now moonlights at the pet store. Remember those delicious sticky cinnamon buns.mmmmm anyways he was a very interesting fellow and is having an art exhibit in September. He let us see a sneak preview and wow his work is something else.

  9. Well it finally rained a bit this afternoon but not even enough to get the rain gear out. There is a watering restriction in effect and an open fire ban on. We drove to Cowen Point to check out the golf course. It looks like they are planning on building many new homes as the road infra structure is tops. We also saw a new road going in at Bluewater. As Bob Dylan wrote, ” A times are changin'”.

  10. Yesterday Laura and I slathered ourselves with sun screen and went sea kayaking for 3 hours. We played around Deep Bay to wave to Auntie Teeny then headed out to do some serious kayaking. We were able to almost get to Hood Point then came back around the Point and to September Morn. We saw the new house being built on Jason. Wow what a view! Probably the best on the island. They have done a terrific/ creative job working in the cliff and the architecture. Would have, should have!
