Our Thanksgiving Report

marthas_turkey.jpgWhat a difference a day makes. The summer like heat and humidity over the Thanksgiving long weekend has given way to the damp chilling breeze of autumn. We were able to harvest and bin all the soybeans over the weekend and I still managed to enjoy sharing a sit down turkey meal with family. Martha prepared a lovely feast while the kids did a yard clean-up of various trimmings that have accumulated over the past few weeks.

LATEST GEEK NEWS: On Friday we had an installer come and hook us up to wireless BROADBAND internet. Xplornet Internet Service has finally chosen to ad more rural areas in their service network and have recently placed a repeater antenna on the big CBC tower nearest our house. It’s certainly not urban dsl/cable fast, but it sure beats our old dial-up by about 20x’s. The “UP TO” 3Mb service is only valid for a few second burst then it falls back to a steady 82KB/s (656Kbs) flow. They bolted a 900Mhz antenna (lasagna tray size) on the gable end of our roof and he did a very clean professional install. Time will tell how dependable it will be. Net cost is close to the same price we were paying for a second phone line plus unlimited dial-up access.

Apple_Logo.pngIt’s also been about two months since we replaced the main PC desktop computer with a 24″ iMac :apple: My final verdict is… fantastic! The machine and operating system is rock solid, silent, and the huge display is drop dead gorgeous. It took a while choosing suitable mac software to replace my old windows programs but the switch is now complete with 100% satisfaction. Now all I need to do is get a wireless intranet set-up so the spare computer is networked.

  1. Congratulations on finally getting past the dial up. I have been out on the road a few times and had to revert from DSL to Dial Up and felt like I would rather trash my internet access than go back to dial up. Hi speed internet, iMac, and a beautiful turkey dinner to top it off, it just don’t get any better than that.
