Life on the Beach – Day 3

private beachThis part of Florida is a really nice spot to vacation. The weather yesterday was 79 and today it was 78 with some afternoon overcast and humidity. We are lathered in sun screen but I still got burnt on my shoulders today. At Fort Myers Beach, the sand is hard packed, fine (almost like talc), and as white as can be. Last weeks storm has churned up the sea so the water is a murky greenish brown.

We have not gone swimming in the ocean yet. The tides go way out each morning and there are all kinds of shells and interesting sea creatures in the tidal pools. It is a great place for beach combing and shell hunting. So far I’ve seen starfish, sea cucumbers, urchins, sponges, sea weed, coral, jelly fish and sand dollars. People are fishing off the beach and catching these really big fish, plus the pelicans are dive bombing the waters edge for their meals.

Coconut Point Mall 2Coconut Point MallThis afternoon I got Tom out shopping. We went to a new mall in Estero, FL called Coconut Point. It took three different buses to get there but it was so worth it. This mall covers 500 Acres and the shops are all high end with the parking lots full of Porsce, BMW, Lexus etc. They even had an Apple Store there so we got to play around with the new Apple Macbook AIR (so light). We also played around with the touch screen ipod and the iphone. Very cool stuff. :apple: :apple:

Chile Poblano Relleno De QuesoWe caught the last bus from Coconut Point Mall and had about a 45 min layover at the transfer point to catch our island trolley. Tom spotted a Mexican Restaurant called “La Fogata” so we had supper there. The owner assured us any meal we ordered would be prompt and give us enough time to catch our bus. The food was authentic, service prompt, and the was bill modest. We did catch our northbound trolley and got back home in time to enjoy a balmy nighttime swim in the pool.
