Heading Home
It is hard to believe we have been away from home for 7weeks and it is now time to head back. The time has been so enjoyable both at Carol’s Cottage and at the Sea Isle Condos. We have many fond memories to hold us till next year…
We left Key Colony Beach on Sunday March 1st at 10:30 after I had a chance to have one more swim in the pool and a last dip in the Ocean. The Bike and belongings all loaded with precision into the truck and trailer and we headed up the Florida Turnpike to Ocala Florida. The temp when we left the Keys was 29C and as we traveled north it slowly got cooler till it dropped to 10C.
On Monday we were watching the snow that was blasting the eastern seaboard and decided our next stop over would be McDonough Georgia which is just south of Atlanta. The roads have been good and the travel scenic. We are heading to Bill and Jean’s today and should be at Harrington Lake by supper.

Getting Baked in KCB
…clam baked that is :) This afternoon we went to the KCB Clam Bake at the local park by our golf course. It was put on by the Key Colony Fishing and Boating Club. The food was fresh and very well prepared. They had raw clams, clam chowder, steamed clams, fried clam strips, raw oysters, fried oysters, fried tilapia fish, fried chips, fried onion rings and a free flowing bar of draft beer and wine. We were impressed with how quickly and efficiently so many people were served. It was so much fun and a great way to spend a Monday afternoon. Pictures after the jump. Continue reading
A Day at the Beach
What a lovely day we had today. By 10 am you could definitely feel the 83 degree F heat and high humidity, with not a cloud in the sky. We decided that instead of touring around we would spend Eileen’s last day in KCB enjoying the sand and the surf. Continue reading
Daytrip to Islamorada
Today we all hopped into the truck and ventured a little N to Islamorada. The girls had shown interest in visiting the Theater at the Sea marine mammal adventure park. It’s a very intimate and well laid out park with shaded walkways and little cafes mixed in amongst all the display areas. The girls didn’t want to swim with the dolphins (cool water required wet suit) so we only purchased observer passes. All the scheduled shows had minimal attendance and people were encouraged to come forward and interact with them. Continue reading
Day Trip to Key West
Martha and I left Saturday morning on the bike and rode to Key West. The sky was blue, air was warm, and the traffic was moving well. We took US1 down to mile marker “0” at the furthest southern point in the USA. After our obligatory tourist snapshot, we walked back to our bike to see a policewoman sneaking around behind bushes and shrubs. She was talking into her radio and reporting on the crowd gathered around the marker. It was funny watching her crouch and scurry from bush to shrub, trying to stealthily make her report. I just assumed she was looking for pic-pockets or people of interest. Pictures and videos after the break. Continue reading
Cold snap hits Florida
The CNN just did a feature on the cold snap hitting Florida. Frozen Strawberries being harvested. What about the lemons and key Limes down your way in Key Colony Beach, Fla.? Mind you frozen strawberry margaritas sound mighty inviting.
Key Colony Beach
Yeah… we are here. The house is amazing — big, comfy, everything anyone would need! We got here around noon. Check in was not suppose to be until 4pm but the house was unlocked, instructions and keys in the kitchen so we moved on in.
The bike traveled well and Tom unloaded it in a flash. After unpacking the car we went on the motorcycle to Sparky’s Landing for raw oysters and fish tacos (delicious) for lunch. Then back to the house to get our bearings, test out the beds, lay in the sunshine and make out a grocery list. It is 5pm and we are going out for happy hour. 25 cent wings and 25 cent shrimp and 1 dollar drafts. Life is Good!
Photos and Video after the break. Continue reading
Gateway to the Keys
Today we drove down the east coast of Florida from St Augustine to Florida City. What a long state Florida is. It seemed like we were driving all day and it was only 6hrs. Fort Lauderdale and Miami had lots of traffic and just looked like big cities so we were glad we bypassed them. The sun shone for the better part of the day but we did see a few sprinkles around Jupiter. Continue reading
