The blog leaves Pennsylvania

Within the next seven days, the web server that our blog physically resides on, is moving to a new location. My provider, AlphaOmegaHosting.Com is relocating their PA datacenter to a location that has more dependable bandwidth and server capacity. I’ve been assured everything will be moved transparently, but don’t be surprised if a problem pops up. For those of you who have complementary 4tg.ca e-mail addresses, the move should go trouble-free, and require no action by you. Everything will be mirrored on two sites until the global name servers have all been re-synced (about three days). I’ll post again when the move is complete.

A New Spring Look for the Blog

OK, since spring has started, its time for a new look for our Family Blog. In my attempt to make this site easier to view at different screen resolutions, I have used all scalable fonts and formatting is now done entirely with CSS style sheets. No more fixed pixel size text. Let me know what you think of the new color scheme and layout. Please be patient with me while I fix the photo album’s style sheets… it’s a bear to setup the album CSS.

New Colour Scheme

I was tiring quickly of the blog’s current winter theme with all it’s “greyness”. I wanted something a bit brighter and created this in your face teal, yellow, and red combo and then placed Martha’s convertible picture back on the top. If the colours hurt your eyes… too bad. It’s my way to get through the winter blahs and I’m keeping this for a while. I also changed the photo album theme slightly to try and visually link the two separate program webpages closer.

Move is completed :)

Disregard the temporary link from last week and use 4tg.ca If you are reading this, then you are on our new web host. I’ve never seen my local DNS servers sync so fast. Hopefully now people, we are finished with extended downtime, spotty e-mail, and crappy host support. The services, correspondence, and support with the new host (AlphaOmegaHosting) are outstanding. They have real live people that speak and write coherently. [Watch this post come back and bite me in the butt at some future date.]
Special thanks to Eileen for letting me use her broadband connection to move all the files and reset permissions. It would have taken me a full day at best with my lowly dialup connection.

4TG.ca moving soon…

Well I made the first step to relocate the domain. I hope it goes well when I do a domain transfer.
[Edit Nov27 12:21am] Domain posted to new DNS servers. The change should be complete when all the global name servers complete their synchronization in about 2 days.

The site is now back online

Wow that was a l o n g outage. My host ran into some major DNS problems at the same time they were updating some of their server software. To make matters worse they changed the virtual server location on me without telling and trashed all my script driven programs [blog and photo album]. I hope this site is stable now. I do have some new development ideas for the future so stay tuned.

WebLog Server NOW working… ?

[EDIT 5/3/02] All is now working :)
A few false starts, but our server is now fixed (I hope!) For some reason the html site and the FTP didn’t agree on my virtual server site#’s so they [turningweb.com] rebuilt everything from scratch with a new# and used their last backup (May30th) I did have a few things saved from this mornings small window of opportunity and restored what I could. Apologies to the authors of some lost comments. Squirrel mail is yet to be fixed.

How do you post?

OK. It’s nice to see you guys aren’t afraid to leave comments to existing posts, how about starting your own entry :)
It’s easy. Click “Author log-in” on your right panel, then click “add a new entry”. When you’re satisfied with what you want to post, click “add this entry.”

If you want to included a small picture in your post, first click “upload a file”, then “browse” to that image on your computer, then “upload this file”. Include image in post, then compose your entry or thought for the day. If desired you are allowed to delete your own post by “Edit an entry”, “open/close selected entry” etc.
All new posts are inserted at top of weblog page and old ones scroll down, then off to the archives after each month.
