Saturday’s weather was great so Martha and I took off in the convertible for a leisurely drive. No destination in mind just back roads and sunshine. My only regret was I didn’t bring a camera for pictures (doh!) As we were driving along we passed through a village and noticed all the parked cars and discovered it was…
…Glencoe’s 127th annual Agricultural Fair. What a treat to see an old fashioned fair complete with children of all ages showing their prized 4-H livestock, chuck wagon races, vegetable/grains entries, car show etc. It was like stepping back in time 30 years or so.
After the fair we drove south until we hit Lake Erie. The lakefront in the area around Dutton has high bluffs looking down onto the water. There was a campground and marina close by that had seasonal sites and Martha enquired about the going rates. Before we left, Martha had many invitations to join their community and was asked her square dancing abilities. They had a dance hall, ball diamond, picnic shelters, cantina, but the park resident median age was 69. I don’t think I’m cut out for that type of community living, but they sure were interested in the prospect of fresh meat.
After we narrowly escaped the intoxicated, bare midriff lady, (she kept tugging down at her low-cut jeans and staring wide-eyed at Martha and I), we ended up in Blenheim for a delightful Greek dinner of gyros, mediterranean salad and bloody Caesars. All in all it was an interesting day and sure beats the dreary rain we are experiencing today and forecasted for the remainder of the week.
