Sushi Served Pondside :-(

Thursday night I brought home some nice fish for our pond. I purchased two gold fish and three shubunkin (poor man’s koi). They seemed very happy in the pond and explored all the nooks and crannies among the rocks. They loved to dart back and forth under the waterfall and taking turns chasing one another back and forth the length of the pond. It must of been a great feeling to be out of the crowded aquarium they came from.

This morning there was no one to be found. We had an early morning visitor that had a preference for fresh fish for breakfast. Our new pets had become a delicious early morning snack for a great blue heron. While we were looking for our fish this morning, the local heron was making another sortie run overhead. Tough luck for us and our short lived pets. Crying

  1. Oh No! Your poor fish. They were expensive too I’ll bet? They had a good time at the Gillier resort pond for their remaing day. People in Toronto have fake Owls to keep the pigeons off their balconies. This may work for the heron not wanting to do the quickie fly-thru using your pond as a deli. I’m sorry for your loss. Poor Harley, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Beamer.

  2. A family is looking for a home for two 1 1/2yr old pups. A black Lab and a Lab/Rotti mix. Lisa Johnston asked me if I was interested, thinking that I was looking. Should I enquire further for you guys?

  3. Luckily the fish were not too expensive. The goldfish were 99? and the shubunkins were $3. I just didn’t expect to be treating the herons to a free breakfast. I’ll have to consider some alternatives to protect the pond from predators.

PokingStick Re: dog: ah… no thanks! It would probably end up being a digger and destroy all my new landscaping.

  4. ONE SURVIVOR – This afternoon I noticed an orange flash in the pond to rejoice in the discovery of one lone shubunkin.
