AHHHHH! The “Gillier Pond” has an unwanted visitor! Tonight while I was outside checking the pond, a muskrat popped out of the water right at hands length as I leaned over to move a water hyacinth. It scared the bejezzes out of me. Jackie came running to see what the ruckus was about. I do not know who was scared the most? It scurring across the deck into the dark.
Oh no, on inspection around the pond we noticed plants strewen all over in and out of the pond and burrowing holes between the flagstone and deck.
Last Sunday I woke up to a grinding noise coming from the pump. The skimmer was full of plants and the filter net was shredded . The people at Colonial Nursery said “You have muscrat problems”. This is definitely not Muscrat Love! I think it is time to call in Elmer Fud!
Is Tom your elmer Fudd? You got to get that pesky varmet before he contaminates your pond eco system with his ditch cooties. Why don’t you toss the pond lettuce into the ditch so he can nosh at his home not yours. Did he snip at your lotus or lilies? Try spreading dog hair around, cyanne pepper, cloves to try and keep him away. Goodluck.
The pesky varmit struck again! When I got home from work I directly went out to check the pond to find reminents of eaten plants all over the place,3 freshly dug holes tunneling under the wooden deck and when I lifted the filter box, the skimmer net was all torn to bits and the filter pad had a big chunks nibbled out. I am presently trying to mend the netting with dental floss and have plugged the holes. I am worried it is burrowing under the ground and will make a hole in the centre of the liner. We will monitor water levels…Wish us luck, there will not be any mercy!
