Trek to Lover’s Key

Today we woke up to blue skies and cooler temperatures. That just means Capri pants, long sleeves or jackets. The complex had a continental breakfast reception to welcome everyone to week 51. The toasted coconut Dunkin donuts hit the spot. I had a 3 mile walk along the beach almost making it to the farthest north point of Estero Island. It was early enough that I almost had the beach all to myself except for a few shellers and joggers.

In the afternoon we rode the trolley down to the farthest southern tip of the Island and over the lift bridge to Bonita Springs. We went to a state park with it’s beautiful beaches at Lover’s Key. We strolled the beaches and explored the boardwalks through the mangrove forests. We found all kinds of shells, crabs, starfish and pelicans. Pictures can be found here.

All the walking brought on our appetite and we ended up having wings at Hooters. We walked back to the Sandcastle and Laura and I hopped into the pool and hot tub. It is now after sunset and we are relaxing and sipping homemade margaritas and grilling steaks.
