This afternoon our pond fish came out of their winter dormancy and hiding places to inspect their surroundings and bask in the sun. They swam to the surface and said hello. I was thrilled and welcomed them to spring.

The fish have doubled in size over the winter and look really healthy and fat. Bubbles is the white and black Ogon Koi. Chow Lin is the white and red Kohaku Koi. Jenny is the jumbo goldfish. Honda is the little goldfish. Marilyn2 is the blond goldfish. Pumpkin is the red Shubunkin. Norton and Harley are the other tri-colour Shubunkins. Then of course there is Louis the Black Moore who has been vacationing in a 20 gal aquarium in our living room.
Wonderful to see the way nature deals with our winters! Glad to hear all have survived. I hope the same for us through the years.
A big thanks goes out to Jackie and Josh who played house over the Christmas deepfreeze. Poking around with the big stick and keeping that bubbler working, kept the fish alive in the pond, I’m sure.
