Yesterday we experienced the fun at Fort Henry National Historic Site. It is a living museum of military life in the 1800’s with tours, artillery demos and parade of guards. We explored the fort and museums til 1:30. It was very interesting and the students re-enacting the roles did a great job. They even did not mind answering my 101 questions. The weather was very comfortable and perfect for walking about. More pictures start here…
We headed east up the St Lawrence River for a short drive to the riverside town of Gananoque. It is known as the Canadian gateway to the 1000 Islands. The town was bustling with activities including downtown streets closed to traffic, sidewalk sales, kids games and all kinds of buskers working the crowd. We had fun exploring this old town.
We decided since we were in Gananoque we would take the 3 hour tour at 4:30 other than come back the next day. We lucked out. The cruise was beautiful with calm waters, blue skies and beautiful scenery. The million dollar homes were breathtaking right out of a magazine and all the cigar boats and skidoos buzzing around the boat were fun to watch. We learned about Pirate Bill Johnston and circled around the famous Boldt Castle on Heart Island.
We celebrated our 26th anniversary at the Gananoque Inn with 2lbs of steaming Mussels, pickerel, Cajun catfish chicken and a 1/2 litre of Jackson Triggs. A perfect way to end a fairy tale day.
