I suggested to Tom that we venture off on an Easter road trip this year so to coin the slogan by Marshall Field, “Give the lady what she wants” we set off Friday and headed towards Chicago Illinois.
The trip took a little more than 5 hours of snow blowing driving. Isn’t this supposed to be springtime? It was quite nice traveling on a Good Friday with reduced truck traffic and a nice smooth highway. Tom did all of the driving while I relaxed and slept most of the way. When we hit the toll road in Indiana the traffic picked up and we braced ourselves for the populous. What an interesting drive along Lake Michigan seeing the massive aging steel mills and huge manufacturing plants. You can see the towering skyscrapers of the Chicago skyline from miles away… a spectacular site! Our GPS flawlessly picked her way over and around the Chicago sky bridges and dropped us right to our hotel’s door.
The Four Points Sheraton Hotel is right in the heart of the bustling Magnificent Mile district and close to everything. Our first meal we decided would be a Chicago deep dish pizza pie so we found Giordano’s. The place was very busy and there was an hour wait. We found ourselves a pair of barstools and enjoyed the suds, scenery and conversation. We ordered a medium special with sausage, mushrooms, peppers and onions. It was delicious with lots of long stringy cheese and tomato sauce.
After supper we walked up Michigan Ave to find the Apple Store. You could try out all the newest and latest products and dream. Walking back to the hotel we found Garret’s Popcorn and bought a bag of caramel crunch for a midnight snack.
Hey mom and dad sounds like your having a lot of fun. Did you buy anything at the computer store?? Good luck with the rest of your vacation and I hope the weather isn’t to cold for mom.
