Chicago Day 2

sheddToday we visited Shedd’s Aquarium. Picture if you will, a bitter cold wind off the lake, an hour long wait outside in a line, and every damn school kid in Illinois bumping into you once they squeeze everyone inside. Chicago’s current catch phrase for the Gilliers is “Oh… that will be about an hours wait”. Where the heck are all these people coming from?

The Shedd Aquarium was nice to visit but after spending the morning and afternoon there, it was time to head back towards the hotel. Chicago really does have a lot to see and our necks have been like spinning tops trying to see it all. We stopped at a nice Thai restaurant called the Big Bowl for an early supper since we didn’t have lunch.

We started out with a house brewed pomegranate ginger ale to quench our thirst and then ordered an assortment of food to share. We had the potsticker combo appetizer, Chinese hot and sour soup, yellow curry chicken with sweet green beans, and red hot pepper chicken noodles. The flavours and service were great and the heat level was spot on for my taste buds.

Martha: After supper we walked the Magnificent Mile and popped into a few shops. We saw Eddie Baurs, Harley Davidson and Virgin Records. Tom had eyed a pair of walking shoes on our first day here and he decided to go in and try them on. They fit like a glove and he wore them out of the store :>) We headed over to Trader Joe’s, an organic grocery store and picked up some fresh fruit, spicy tortilla chips and a small carrot cake. They had wine tasting going on and I just had to sample them all before choosing a lovely bottle of Cols du Bois Chardonnay. Back to the hotel we went with our fine purchases and put our feet up. We enjoyed our evening and wine and before I knew it, I was called it a night ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz. :snore:

  1. The vacation sounds like you are getting out and seeing the sights despite the cold, windy weather. Are you going to the Cheese Cake Factory Restaurant while you are in Chicago? Have you tried the red and blue subway lines yet? LAURA quick put in your shopping requests, your Mom and Dad are in the shopping mecca of America.

  2. We did the Cheese Cake Factory yesterday, not too impressed with their product. Cecile’s cheesecake is MUCH better. No subway rides… Martha made me walk everywhere :-)

  3. haha thats a hassel. Isnt the whole point of the subway to cut down the walking time, who wants to walk these days? lol. Well at least you guys got to see teh sites. We also went to the cheesecake factory and teh dinner was amazing. Although, i do agree about the whole cheesecake thing; nothing special.
