OJ, Sun and Fun

It was an interesting drive going through Georgia today. We saw fields of cotton and peanuts and all kinds of fancy irrigation devices. You could see the forests change from Carolinian to Savannah with the moss hanging off the branches and palms appeared, lining the roadway. We were glad to see the mercury on the thermometer slowly rise the further we traveled south.

When we crossed into Florida we went into the visitors centre for our complimentary glass of OJ. Boy was it refreshing. We got into St Augustine mid afternoon and checked into the La Quinta Hotel. It is a very comfortable room with huge beds. We freshened up, changed our clothes and headed down to the historical district. We discovered the Spanish quarter, the oldest wooden school house, the Castillo de San Marcos (fort), old churches and Ponce De Leon’s fountain of youth. Everything is very old 1672-1821’ish The old walls are a type of concrete made of coquina a locally quarried soft shell rock and certainly have withstood the test of time. Along the way we did a pub crawl, took a few pictures, went into a few shops and tried on hats. We ended up at OC White’s Seafood and Spirits for a lovely dinner of Kauai Mahi and sirloin steak with a perfect house Merlot. It has been the best meal we have had so far.

Thanks for adding skype. It is lots of fun talking to everyone and sharing our experiences. We are off to Florida City tomorrow. It is south of Miami but not quite into the keys. Then on Saturday we will head to Key Colony Beach and take possession of our house rental.
