All Accounted For

This afternoon our pond fish came out of their winter dormancy and hiding places to inspect their surroundings and bask in the sun. They swam to the surface and said hello. I was thrilled and welcomed them to spring.

Top O’ the Mornin’

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all our wee family and friends. Tom and I are here in Toronto with Eileen and Brian celebrating our 51st birthday together. We will be going to Doolins, the corner pub for lunch and a twin pint of Guinniss.

Tour de France

french gourmet album linkLast Saturday night we hosted our Gourmet group and the theme was “France”. We met our guests at the door with iced Pernod with soda and orange juice. We did our bonjours and assante in style. We gathered in the living room around the coffee table laden with a fine assortment of French cheeses and pate with a fresh baguette. The music was the newfrench cd from the LCBO. The center piece theme was Pisces and so I had large glass vases of goldfish on every table. With a few quick preparations still to do in the kitchen our evening around the dining table was off to a fantastic start. We accompanied the meal with various french wines to everyones delight. I surprised my guests at the end of the night with a vase of gold fish as a take home gift along with a gift bag from La Senza complete with a pair of french lace pantie

Pisces Birthday

Another special day arrived today – Happy Birthday Jaclyn!

Josh came over and the partying began. Jaclyn did not get off work until 9:00 p.m. so we celebrated with a late supper at our place..

We enjoyed a meal of lasagna, garlic bread and salad. The toasting wine was a South African dry red called Goats Do Roam. It actually even tasted good with the special confetti cake Laura baked. We hope your day was special Jackie!

Oliver R.I.P.

Oliver is the beautiful 12yr old black Labrador that I have been dogsitting for the past month and a half. Late Thursday night we got a phone call from the vet emergency hospital that Oliver was in distress. He was taken in by his owners with a bloated stomach which later was diagnosed as “stomach torsion“. This is life threatening in dogs. He died that night of heart failure during surgery. It came as a big shock to everyone and his condition and worsened in a 2 hour span. There was no warning. He had a gag type cough for some time that everyone ignored, which probably weakened the muscles holding the stomach in place. He did not have the typical symptoms as described.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Here we are in the month of February, ready to celebrate not only St. Valentine’s snake-charming ways, but more importantly, the birthdays of several venerable family in-law and out-law members.

On February 15 is Bill’s birthday, followed closely by Rosemary’s on the 17th, Jaclyn’s on the 22nd and John’s on the 27th. I must warn you that I am using only my memory, so any mistaken dates or forgotten people must be forgiven in the name of good faith and faulty faculties.

Happy Birthday to all. The days are getting longer. Let us celebrate this mid-winter month with gusto; and be reminded that individuals certainly make a difference to our lives.
