Just wanted to try posting an entry (now that I’ve finally learned), and couldn’t resist responding to tired little Grandpa and Rylyn catching 40 winks. The pictures are great. So good to see everyone, and to see the beautiful country – and little Bullwinkle.

Update: Gibson Family News via Jennifer
As most of you know, my parents George and Louise Gibson, lost their home in the Kelowna forest fire. It’s always tough when bad things happen to good people, but good people have family and friends to get them through it. All your thoughts and kindness is appreciated more than you can know.

Summer Winds Down
It is hard to believe this summer will soon be over and everyone will be getting back to their old routines. This week the weather has been hot and humid – perfect for night cruising with the top down.
On Wednesday Laura and two friends went on a bus trip to Canada’s Wonderland in Toronto. They loved the waterpark and wave pool area the best. The lineups for the super rollercoasters were +1hrs long but they managed to go on a few. They loved the freedom of being on their own for the first time and had a great time.

Kelowna Fire Storm now Category 6 (highest)
Our prayers are with George, Louise and Graham Gibson [see previous post] today as the fires in Kelowna rage towards their beautiful home. Firefighters are battling walls of fire 400 feet high with wind gusts from 60 to 70 km/h advancing the flames 100 meters per minute. They were evacuated Thursday night and are safe at George’s sister, Dixie. People were given 1hr notice to leave and they were able to get out with pictures, important papers, some mementos and a few antiques. Today could be a very tragic event for them.

Another Great Day in Paradise
The Gilliers are here and today the weather has been picture perfect for them. I went shopping with Tom today and picked up a wireless router. We just got it installed and I’m posting this from my laptop on the deck while drinking some nice cold beers. Tom posted some more of his vacation pictures in the photo album that can be accessed here.

In Golden
We travelled along the Trans Canada 1 to Golden. Beautiful drive but alas mountains were blocked with thick forest fire smoke. We are staying in a cozy mountain chalet for the night called Hillside Lodge. We will tour the Banff area tomorrow and then on to Calgary.
Kelowna Visit gets interesting…
We got to George and Louise Gibson’s home today. Had a nice visit but the smoke in the atmosphere ruined the view when we took the Mission Winery tour. The radio is now advising us to be prepared to evaquate the area as the forest fire is only a few KM’s away. The sky is lit up orange with a huge plumb of gray smoke and everyone is gathering up personal affects. I would post some pictures but this computer is old enough to not have a USB port. I’m not sure if I’ll have a chance to post any more details tomorrow but this should be a trip that Laura will never forget.
Basement Clutter
I’m well on my way to organizing my life. I started to purge my clutter and started in the furnace room and storage area. I first had to move out all the boxes and clear out the “Black Hole”. I cleaned and dusted and then painted the floor. Built and installed shelves from Ikea and bought Rubbermaid buckets to store all the “must keeps”. Everything else will get tossed. Why do I need that Grade three art folder anyway? My tv room is in an absolute upheavale, but what the heck. My dead line to have it all done is this Thursday. Wish me luck!
Another Glorious Day
I have been watching the web cams on Bowen Island and English Bay and the weather that they are having on the west coast is just unbelievable. Martha, Tom and Laura you must be having the time of your lives. Have you decided to move out there yet? Blackberry season will tempt me anyday, thats for sure. Glad to hear that you are having a fun holiday. Happy Anniversary. I wish I was there to dine and celebrate together, like always.
