On Sunday Tom and I went boating with our good friends Tony and Bonnie Srnicek. We arrived at the Lighthouse Marina shortly after 1pm and before we knew it, we were casting off and skimming across Lake St Clair. It was a perfect day with clear blue skies and a warm 28 degrees. The water was very calm and the wake was mesmerizing as it sparkled in the sun. We headed out across the lake to a popular swimming hole called the Sandbar.
Bonnie dropped the anchor and we were soon laughing and getting caught up on all the news from the past year. The cold beer from Tony’s mini bar sure went down well. Bonnie and I sat on the diving platform and before you knew it I was in the water. The water was so warm and only up to my chest. It was fun floating and paddling about.
After our swim we heading off to Windsor at the mouth of the Detroit River. We moored at the Lakeshore Marina and finished off a fine bottle of merlot before dinner and then went ashore to Lilly Kazzilly’s Crab Shack & Grill. What a great place to hang out, have a great meal and relax. We all ordered appetizers which included crab cakes, crab dip, crab stuffed portabella mushrooms and a fresh baked loaf of bread. Second course involved a house salad or soup of the day. You would have thought we were starving the way the food disappeared. Our main courses were delicious. Tom had pecan encrusted tilapia, Tony had chicken and portabella mushrooms, Bonnie had lake perch and I had the Kazzilly combo of perch, halibut and shrimp. We really enjoyed our dinners and our moans of approval could definitely be heard. The staff was friendly and the food excellent.
Our trip back to Lighthouse Cove was very enjoyable. Tony and Tom took the helm and Bonnie and I relaxed with our feet up watching the fish jump in the glow of the setting sun. Before you knew it we were back at their home marina and a fun time was had by all.
Ahoy mate-y
What a fine way to end the summer of ‘o7
When are you buying a boat. I think you need another toy.
:vacation: No boat for me thanks. It much better to have gracious friends that maintain a beautiful cruiser and invite us to share an outing once in a while.
