The Wall Is Up

mortar.jpgYesterday when I got home the low wall forming our front courtyard was more than half completed. The stone masons are back this morning finishing up. What a wonderful job they are doing! The stone we chose is a multi sized cultured stone, pinkish sandstone colour with dark mortar. They will cap it with a long sheet of angelstone. This was something that was in the original 1957 house blueprints and we decided to add it into our landscaping renovations.
Scott arrives this afternoon with a transport of topsoil to spread on the backyard around the deck and pond so we can plant grass seed. Then EVERYTHING will be DONE.

First HBC Purchase

Today Tom ventured down to Windsor to look for lawn furniture and he came home with a Beauty! It is the set Nick took pictures of from HBC. Thanks Eileen… you have impeccable taste. Yeah… Tonight we will assemble it and have Caesars by the pond.

The Philadelphia Flyers eliminated the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 3-2 overtime victory in Game 6 of a second-round NHL playoff series Tuesday night. “Boo Hoo!”

The Youth Council of Chatham Kent ran a photo contest this month with categories in pride, history, environment and people. I submitted three pictures that I took with the Nikon and today they called! I got two firsts and a third. The prizes consist of a coffee table book that they will be featured in plus $200. Yahoo!

Earth Day 2004

Earth Day was a huge success. The weather cooperated nicely and the ground was not too wet. We were able to pick up 8 bags of trash from Mud Creek. The students saw a muskrat, a garter snake, a red winged blackbird, a robin’s nest with 3 blue eggs and identified the call of the cardinal. All around it was a teachable moment.

Torrential Rains

This afternoon and evening we are experiencing the thunderstorms, winds and RAIN that the GTO got on Sunday. It was so heavy you could not drive in it. Our pond is so full, one side had a slight spill over, (not that bad). At least this gives us an idea where to build up the slope. The satellite keeps re-adjusting its signal and the APC surge protector on the computer activates.
Hope everybody has plans to “Pitch In” tomorrow for Earth Day. I have all the Grade 3’s heading down to Mud Creek for a community clean up. Pray for clearer weather than today!
Remember Every Day Is Earth Day.

Easter 2004

Happy Easter Everyone!
What a lovely day we had today. Jackie came home for the weekend and Irene was out for the day. The weather was nice enough for us to sit out on the patio and enjoy the babble of the bubbling rock, listen to the many song birds in the trees, sip a cold Corona and puff on a Cuban Montecristo.

Oh What A GREAT Vacation!

After a wonderful week in New Orleans (picture album) it was time to say tata you’all, thank you for the memories and catch the plane back to Detroit.

We stayed at Hilton Garden Suites (Detroit Airport) overnight and dined on pizza and beer. We hit the Fairlane Mall on Saturday to shop till we dropped. Tom went his way and I went mine and then we met back after 2 hours. What fun to check out the purchases. I found Victoria Secret.. must I say more! Tom had a quest and he found what he was looking for. He picked up a Bunn 3 minute brew 10 cup coffee maker and a Kitchen Aid Coffee Mill. We crossed the border easily and got home Saturday afternoon.
NOW, Back to the grind!
Laura returns home tonight Sunday at 11:30 pm from her adventures in Spain and Portugal.

Sky of Blue, Sea of Green

St Patrick's Day Street PartyWhile on a walking tour of the Garden District and Cemetery we stumbled upon a wave of green all heading down Third Street. Green beer fueled the annual Parasol’s St. Patrick’s Day block party in the Irish Channel. What fun! What crowds! I got my face painted, enjoyed the Irish tunes and mingled with the party goers. After a bit we headed back to our hotel by trolley to get ready for supper.
