Weekend In Ohio

ohio_weekend.jpgJean and I are spending a weekend with the grandaughters while Angela and Eric have some time away. Angela and Eric went out for dinner Friday evening and got a room for the night. They have tickets to tonights NASCAR Busch series race at Sparta’s Kentucky Speedway tonight and I’m sure we’ll be rooting for Eric’s favorite Kevin Harvick. I will be watching the race on FX channel (Eric has almost turned me into a NASCAR fan). It is about 90°F and we are chilling in the comfort of the air conditioning and playing with the grandkids.

There’s No Place Like Home

Rockhurst_Hawks_LogoStephen and Nick just got back from a fantastic 4 day trip to Kansas City, Missouri. Their purpose was to check out a wonderful opportunity to attend a US University on a baseball/academic scholarship. Rockhurst Hawks are very interested in offering Steve a place as a starter in their Lineup. Rockhurst University (additional info) is a private Jesuit University situated on beautiful grounds in Kansas City. The offer is very impressive and now is the hour for Steve to make his choice. We are all very much excited for him. They even took in a KC Royals game at Kaufmann Stadium to watch Paul Bako (no relation) catch. Weather was hot 37°C and the city was clean and modern. You can see all their pictures in our photo album.

Our New Neighbours

Martha, Laura, and I have new neighbours living across the road. We had a woman that was interested in renting the little white house when Jaclyn announced she would like to live there. Jaclyn and her boyfriend Josh started sharing rent at the beginning of April and are getting settled into their new home. Well today they came across to visit and introduce us to their new roommate. They would like to introduce you to Continue reading

Grease is the Word

greaseBrian is having the time of his life participating in his high school musical production of Grease. He does not have a lead role or speaking part. Being his first time on stage he is Charming Charles the Jock who is one of the chorus members. He is in the background singing, dancing and being in character. He is in practically every other scene and he has 9 wardrobe changes.

He went to the cast finale party Saturday night and I think that made all the hard work worth while. The play performed 2 matinees, and 3 evenings with sell out crowds. We laughed and were wowed by the excellent talent from his school. Now Brian has to come down from his theatrical high and crack down to studying (catch up) for his upcoming Easter exams.

Hooray for Snow

Brian on race dayBrian and Nick are off to Ottawa tonight. They are driving up with Team Hardwood coaches and racers in a big suburban hauling a trailer. Nick will share with the driving and the kids will watch movies for 5hrs. They are all off to the “O Cup” races, one in a series throughout the ski season. This is Brian’s new found love and he is really excited to go. He and his Buddy Patrick were also invited to participate at the Ontario Winter Games in March. This is a big honour as this is his first year with the race team. We have no snow in the city but once you drive past Barrie you are in a snow belt and they have been training up there all winter. [EDIT] Added pictures of the race here.

Help me name my new bike.

On Friday I passed my motorcycle M1 drivers licence test and today, I am an official motorcycle owner. It is a 2003 electric blue ZZR 250 Kawasaki Ninja :>) We drove to Kitchener for a look see and when I swung my leg over the saddle I felt a tingle pulse through my loins and said “SOLD”!

Martha Honoured in Award Ceremony

kcsac-award.jpgMartha got a big surprise tonight during the annual coaches banquet. When the Director of Education got up to present the award (not given out since 1999) and started talking about the intended recipient’s past service, Martha thought to herself “hey, I’ve done that”. When they announced her name she said she was so surprised she couldn’t believe it, it just didn’t click that this was for her. She was awarded the KCSAC Award for outstanding contributions to school athletics by the St Clair District School Board. We're Not Worthy Congratulations Martha.
