A Sense of Adventure.

geocachinglogoOn Monday, Bill, Jean, Tom and I went out to Mitchell’s Bay for lunch at Bob and Bouys. We tried their perch on a boat and it was very tasty. On our route home I introduced Jean and Bill to the hobby of Geocaching. We traveled to the villages of Grande Point, Dover Centre, Ounga and Countryview Golf Course on a quest to find hidden treasures. We were successful! With the help of my GPS we found 4 very different caches. Bill even registered his finds on geocaching.com and chose the name gobigblue. Good luck finding further caches in and around Kentucky. Pictures after the jump. Continue reading

A Royal Weekend

Oh what a glorious Labour Day weekend! Jean and Bill brought the nice weather with them and they were here just in time for the long weekend festivities. They were on their way back home from visiting with John and Rosemary in Markdale. On Saturday we went to Chris and Donna Masterson’s 4Oth Wedding Anniversary party that was held at their farm on Fairview Line. It was so much fun to see everyone enjoying themselves and celebrating with Chris and Donna. We got to meet Chris Jr’s fiancé and hold baby Zoe. Chris’ band The Pub Crawlers entertained the guests and Julie and Jeff got to show us some dance moves. Roesch’s Meats and More catered the delicious pork BBQ. Link to some pictures from the Masterson Party.

Bill and Jean’s 34th Wedding Anniversary

023.JPGJean and I celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary yesterday, December 29th. It is always a challenge to make plans to celebrate since there is no telling what the weather will dish out in late December. We decided to take a short drive to Shaker Village for an overnight stay. Jean and I had dined there before but never spent the night. We made dinner and breakfast reservations and headed out on our long journey after Jean came home from work.

At check in we were given a room in “East Family Dwelling”. The rooms are decorated to maintain the original Shaker layout of a very simple design. The building we stayed in was an original family dwelling from the Shaker days. I’m sure the Shakers didn’t enjoy the modern restrooms, Sealy mattress, and heating systems. The outside temperatures dropped below freezing Friday night and the room did get a bit chilly but that only made the comfortable bed a bit harder to get out of Saturday morning. I am glad that we didn’t have to do it all Shaker style.

Our dinner reservations were at 7:15 and we both enjoyed the great evening meal. We were still feeling the effects of the big Friday evening meal Saturday morning and breakfast was not sounding very interesting. We will have to go back some other time and try out the breakfast buffet.

All in all we had a very enjoyable evening. I suppose I better start looking now for something to do for the 35th. The way time flies it will be here much too soon. You can check out our weekend pictures here.

Week at the Beach

beachJean and I had a great time last week on vacation with Angela, Eric, Madison, Anna and Teresa and Rylyn. Rhett spent all his military leave moving from Alaska to Frederick MD and was not able to be with us. We rented a Villa at Dunescape Villas from Saturday June 24th to Saturday the 30th. We actually left on Friday the 23rd and spent the night in Black Mountain NC breaking up the 675 mile trip to two easy days. The weather was perfect only raining a bit on our return trip. Angela and Eric took a day boat trip to an island with lighthouse and enjoyed their day together. We found a great little restaurant in Beaufort “Clawsons 1905 Restaurant” and Angela, Eric and Teresa went one evening and Jean and I went the next night. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere great.

On the way home we spent the night in Mt. Airy North Carolina. This is the home town of Andy Griffith and the town has the Mayberry Mall, Aunt Bea’s BBQ, and many other Andy Griffith show items. We had our evening meal at “Goobers 52” and that was another fun time. All in all we had a great trip even though it did require a trip to a Mazda dealership in Raleigh on the way home to change out a coil on Eric’s van. They were great and got us in and out in about an hour and a half and cost Eric and Angela under $200 and we were back on the road. We had a great trip and we would highly recommend the “Crystal Coast” beaches of the Atlantic as a fun, laid back vacation spot.

Weekend In Ohio

ohio_weekend.jpgJean and I are spending a weekend with the grandaughters while Angela and Eric have some time away. Angela and Eric went out for dinner Friday evening and got a room for the night. They have tickets to tonights NASCAR Busch series race at Sparta’s Kentucky Speedway tonight and I’m sure we’ll be rooting for Eric’s favorite Kevin Harvick. I will be watching the race on FX channel (Eric has almost turned me into a NASCAR fan). It is about 90°F and we are chilling in the comfort of the air conditioning and playing with the grandkids.
