Snow Birds Day One
We got up this morning at 7, threw the totes in the box hitched up the trailer, did last minute house preps and were on the highway by 9. Yeah, let the winter retirement vacation begin! We made a pit stop in Windsor and got a receipt to validate our departure date. The customs officer at the border was friendly and the tollbooth operator did not charge us for the trailer. We decided to try the eastern route this year and at Toledo turned onto the Ohio Turnpike and down Hwy 77. The roads were wet but well salted and the traffic not too bad. Continue reading

A Few Pictures to Share
Hi all, I recently got directions from Tom on how to add a few pictures to share with the extended family here using Picasaweb. The pictures are not organized yet but you can see some of our images from our cottage and area near Fernie, BC that we have been slowly finishing in our spare time. There are also photos from Nicole’s campus and residence at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY plus a picture of my Dad’s original chair that we had reupholstered.
Discovering the Dead Sea Scrolls
Martha and I ventured by Go train into Toronto and headed up to the ROM by subway to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were on display for all to see. We were impressed but were surprised that they were only small fragments on 8 cells. Thank goodness for multi media display boards and video clips or we really would not know what we were experiencing. The Vietnamese Lunch was great and shopping on Bloor Street Yorkville was an experience in itself. Exhausted we made our way home after a full day. We had fun the next morning applying the “Dead Sea Black Mud and Mineral Salt Mask” product that we bought. Now that is an experience you don’t want to miss!! Lots of pictures after the jump. The Summer of 2009
Oh to be young and have your own wheels. The kids seem to be conserving gas or working like crazy as I have not heard of any recent “Road Trips”. Steve was the first to get into the drivers seat of a 2005 Royal Blue Ford Escape. Laura over much anxiety put her trust and coin in a 2010 White Toyota Corolla. Nicole is bombing around off road in her 2005 Silver Nissan Xtera. May you all only drive as fast as your guardian angels can fly.
Bako a catch in MLB draft
Finally, Peter got his wish. He was chosen Wednesday afternoon by the Pittsburgh Pirates with their 15th-round selection, 445th overall. Peter said, “I had my computer right next to me and every so often I would kind of glance at it. I was watching a movie and I glanced over and saw my name pop up right when I looked over. I just stared at the screen for a good 20 minutes.”
Peter knows that he has a long road ahead before potentially reaching baseball’s pinnacle. He’s been told he needs to get bigger and stronger than his current 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame and a few years in the minors before donning a big-league uniform.
My New ‘Do…
Jaclyn came over this morning and treated me to a new colour job and haircut this morning. I decided to lose the blond highlights and go back to my natural hair colour (well from a few years ago). I think she did a good job. Check out the full service Redneck Salon after the jump. Continue reading
Doing dishes and laundry with a smile!
You all will be very proud of us… we finally called a plumber, actually two, to help us with our plumbing procrastinations. Many of you had seen masking tape on our kitchen faucet so we now have modern taps that don’t come off in your hands or drip when you use them, handles that move effortlessly, and full flowing water, yes even hot water and a new stainless steel sink. Friday afternoon we got delivery of John’s new Kabota tractor. It came with a snowblower, bucket with hooks, a grass cutter and a temperature controlled cab. The blackflies will be very disappointed this year when John is cutting the grass. Bring on the landscape projects!
