Racing with the best of the best can be a bit overwhelming, thrilling and chance of a life time. Brian’s cross country ski team “Team Hardwood” is participating in this event. Some of the racers have medaled and made top 10 in Canada. A great showing so far. Brian’s claim to fame so far is that he got DNF in his team relay because he got lapped by Robin McKeever a two time Olympian. We are having a great time being here at Whistler Olympic Park in Callaghan Valley. And YES we do have snow and plenty of it, not the rain as was forecasted.

Getting to look a lot like Winter
This morning we woke up to giggles and cheers of ‘Look at all the snow’! We are experiencing our first snowfall and accumulation for the season. By the looks of the road the snow plough has not made it down our way yet and we will have to search our garage for the snow shovel. With lots of things to do this busy time of year, I think we will stay put and fill our house with the smell of mmm baked cookies. More pictures after the jump. Continue reading
Our Thanksgiving Report
What a difference a day makes. The summer like heat and humidity over the Thanksgiving long weekend has given way to the damp chilling breeze of autumn. We were able to harvest and bin all the soybeans over the weekend and I still managed to enjoy sharing a sit down turkey meal with family. Martha prepared a lovely feast while the kids did a yard clean-up of various trimmings that have accumulated over the past few weeks. Continue reading
Summer Bollywood Wedding
Ottawa, the nation’s capital and the Chateau Laurier was the perfect location to celebrate an elaborate Hindu wedding. Our dear friends, Asha and Hiraan Perera celebrated their son’s wedding celebration in festive elegance. Hersh and Julie met their guests at the Friday night Sangeet (dinner, dance and entertainment). Saturday was a day of parading down the street to the Chateau Laurier to greet his new bride and her family. They were wed in the Chateau in a traditional Hindu ceremony and then onto the French Corridor for an afternoon tea and sweets, cocktails and appetizers were served prior to the grand entrance to the Grande Ballroom for the very elaborate dinner dance. The Bako family sat with the Butani family and we had a terrific time. The boys first wedding and they were very impressed.
Happy Father’s Day
What a beautiful day we had yesterday. I hope that all the fathers had a relaxing and peaceful day doing what they like to do best. That be golfing, riding your motorcycle or watching a baseball game. I’m sure that Barbecue was the bill of fare yesterday out on the deck with ice cold brews or a smooth Merlot. whatever… as long as the family was around to thank, pamper and celebrate their fathers. Summer is just around the corner. To the DADS!!
Grade 12 Prom
Grade 12 Prom was a festive occasion. The day started off with hair, nails and makeup dates for the girls and the young men headed off to the florists to pick up the corsages and a visit to the pop shop. Shirts pressed, ties tied and it was now show time! All the parents were invited to a lovely garden party hosted by the parents of Peter’s date Stephanie. The grads organized a bus limo to take them to and from the Prom dinner dance. A group of them all met at the before party for a greet and meet and then it was off to an evening to remember.
Colours of Spring ’07
Out on a limb
The Heat is On
Oh, I could not resist to wish everyone a happy weekend working in the garden. The heat is on. We will all be basking in the warmth of the sun and raking to our hearts content, enjoying the first hint of Spring in Ontario.
Bako’s in Kansas City
The whole fan damely flew into KC for Easter this year to spend the holidays with Steve. We spent Friday and Saturday watching 3 baseball games. Rockhurst vs St Louis and the Hawks took the sweep winning all threes games. Steve did not get a chance to pitch which was what we were hoping to see. He looks great and is enjoying his studies (3.7gpa). He writes his final exams the first week in May. The weather is cold and we were smart to bring ski jackets and gloves. The tulips all over the city are out but drooped in the frost. Cherry blossoms and dogwoods abound and the city looks inviting. We fly home tonight. Check out trip pictures here.
