Bill and Jean’s 34th Wedding Anniversary

023.JPGJean and I celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary yesterday, December 29th. It is always a challenge to make plans to celebrate since there is no telling what the weather will dish out in late December. We decided to take a short drive to Shaker Village for an overnight stay. Jean and I had dined there before but never spent the night. We made dinner and breakfast reservations and headed out on our long journey after Jean came home from work.

At check in we were given a room in “East Family Dwelling”. The rooms are decorated to maintain the original Shaker layout of a very simple design. The building we stayed in was an original family dwelling from the Shaker days. I’m sure the Shakers didn’t enjoy the modern restrooms, Sealy mattress, and heating systems. The outside temperatures dropped below freezing Friday night and the room did get a bit chilly but that only made the comfortable bed a bit harder to get out of Saturday morning. I am glad that we didn’t have to do it all Shaker style.

Our dinner reservations were at 7:15 and we both enjoyed the great evening meal. We were still feeling the effects of the big Friday evening meal Saturday morning and breakfast was not sounding very interesting. We will have to go back some other time and try out the breakfast buffet.

All in all we had a very enjoyable evening. I suppose I better start looking now for something to do for the 35th. The way time flies it will be here much too soon. You can check out our weekend pictures here.

Happy Birthday Tom

tom52.jpgWell the big guy celebrated his 50 something bday today. The weather was cooperative and he drove down to Windsor at noon to pick up Laura for the weekend. On the return, they stopped at the DMV in Tilbury to get the license tags for the vehicles. The ladies there gave Tom a lollipop and wished him happy birthday. When he got home the mail lady had delivered cards from Rosemary & John and Catherine & Bill. When I got home from school low and behold Tom had already made supper. To Laura’s delight it was his specialty mushroom-wine chicken using Linderman Bin 65. It was just right! Instead of a cake I baked an apple pie with sharp cheddar and a fine brew of Columbian java. And then the piece de resistance… a birthday serenade over speaker phone from Eileen. I know he has enjoying every minute of it as he is now relaxing in his bathrobe as I type. Tomorrow we will go out to the Rice and Noodle for Thai food. Hope you had a great day Tom.

Happy 19th Birthday Nic-a-dee

nicole_hockey.jpgToday being October 17th, the bells and whistles go off and Nicole we will all be thinking of you. We will also be cheering for you on the ice as I understand that your hockey season starts this week as well. Go out there and get a goal or two. Going brunette is something of a change..don’t think you can hide, your sunshine smile will give you away every time. All the best from your Ontario relatives.

Life begins at 20

DSCN4008.JPGThis is what Steve is feeling these days. He is home for Mid-term break and to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. He is all grown up now. I can detect that he still loves his bed and the comforts of home even though he has become independent. The boys were talking at the dinner table tonight that they could not believe that Steve was now 20. Twenty seemed so old to them. I just listened and smiled quietly to myself.

My boys are all MEN now!

brian_peter_5yrs_oldWhen I asked Brian, “what does turning 18, mean to you?” He said rats, now I don’t get free ATM banking anymore! a chip off the old banking block I guess. The boys were not too thrilled with their birthday gifts this year. They said now they could tell all their friends they got kitchen appliances and would be ready to entertain and throw a party. I got Peter the Magic Bullet Personal Blender and Brian a Quesadilla Maker. Personally I think they can make good use out of these items. I bet they will use them almost every day…hmmm now I can say “whats cookin?”
All grown-up now. My job is done.

Top-O-The-Mornin Ta Ya

leprechaun.gifHappy Birthday Martha and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to you. Turning 53 ain’t that bad especially if you can celebrate in an Irish Pub. It was nice to be away somewhere warm for my birthday. Florida was lovely this time of year and it was perfect temperatures to sit in a lawn chair and watch baseball games. I really think that the Americans celebrate this day more than the Irish Canadians. Have you seen the u-tube video clip where they colour the river in Chicago Green? Continue reading

Twenty Five Years or is that Quarter Century?

jaclyn_25.jpgHappy Birthday Jackie. This day has been long anticipated. I can well imagine that when you were ten years old you were dreaming of the year 2007, when you would turn 25 years old. That day is NOW so enjoy. You are a BIG KID NOW! May you have many more birthdays. Just think, Uncle Gig has been dreaming of this day as well because he turned 50. Wow, what a milestone year it is turning out to be.

Sweet..Lookin’ Good Mark

mark_dec2000.jpgWhere has the time flown by. You wouldn’t recognize Mark McDonald any more, until you tripped over his size 13 running shoe left in the front hall by the front door. He is a busy guy, never home and always at the rink. Sweet to know that you can now drive yourself. With your sisters gone you now have access to a car of your own. SWEET… that’s sweet 16. Happy Birthday Big Guy. We are all very proud of you!
