Martha and I ventured by Go train into Toronto and headed up to the ROM by subway to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were on display for all to see. We were impressed but were surprised that they were only small fragments on 8 cells. Thank goodness for multi media display boards and video clips or we really would not know what we were experiencing. The Vietnamese Lunch was great and shopping on Bloor Street Yorkville was an experience in itself. Exhausted we made our way home after a full day. We had fun the next morning applying the “Dead Sea Black Mud and Mineral Salt Mask” product that we bought. Now that is an experience you don’t want to miss!! Lots of pictures after the jump. Tom Celebrates in Style
With the corn harvest finally completed for the year, Tom was finally able to leisurely enjoy his birthday. Jackie visited for the afternoon and surprised her dad with an antique razor. Laura gave him some Proraso shaving soap, chocolates and a gift certificate to his favourite eatery. So you know what that meant, Martha didn’t have to cook! We all ate royally at The Rice and Noodle enjoying spring rolls, tom yum and coconut soup, lemongrass chicken, shrimp fried rice, cashew chicken, red curry beef, chicken pad thai and steamed jasmine rice. Truly a feast for a king! We returned home and cut into Laura’s famous Swiss carrot and almond cake. It was a fun celebration had by all. Happy Birthday Tom! A few more pictures can be found here.
Of Legal Drinking Age
On Sunday September 14th, Brian and Peter turned 19. They had their first birthday apart, Brian living in Toronto and going to Ryerson University and Peter living in Warner, Oklahoma going to Conner’s State College. They texted each other and wished each other a fun time. Brian met us for dinner and he then took us back to his dorm to show his grandmothers and parents where he will be spending the next 10 months. Happy Birthday boys.
Teen Years Bite the Dust
Happy 20th Birthday Laura. :bday: You have surfed your way through the teen years without a wipeout on the big wave. Today, you venture into a whole new realm of twenty something. When I phoned you tonight you said you were playing teen games and being a kid for the last time. Hey listen, just because the teen years have bit the dust doesn’t mean that you can’t still play and have fun. Enjoy!
Happy Birthday Martha and Eileen
While in Florida, Martha had a big problem with her upcoming 54th birthday. She has never fretted about aging before, but now with retirement in the near future, this mile-marker seemed to hit home. She said all she could think about was the old Beatles song with the lyrics “Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I’m fifty-four.” Luckily she told Eileen her dilemma and concerns who promptly laughed and said not to worry, the correct lyrics are “…when I’m 64“. Disaster averted! Tonight we are invited to Jaclyn’s house for a birthday dinner and celebration.
Happy Birthday Tom
Well the big guy celebrated his 50 something bday today. The weather was cooperative and he drove down to Windsor at noon to pick up Laura for the weekend. On the return, they stopped at the DMV in Tilbury to get the license tags for the vehicles. The ladies there gave Tom a lollipop and wished him happy birthday. When he got home the mail lady had delivered cards from Rosemary & John and Catherine & Bill. When I got home from school low and behold Tom had already made supper. To Laura’s delight it was his specialty mushroom-wine chicken using Linderman Bin 65. It was just right! Instead of a cake I baked an apple pie with sharp cheddar and a fine brew of Columbian java. And then the piece de resistance… a birthday serenade over speaker phone from Eileen. I know he has enjoying every minute of it as he is now relaxing in his bathrobe as I type. Tomorrow we will go out to the Rice and Noodle for Thai food. Hope you had a great day Tom.
Happy 19th Birthday Nic-a-dee
Today being October 17th, the bells and whistles go off and Nicole we will all be thinking of you. We will also be cheering for you on the ice as I understand that your hockey season starts this week as well. Go out there and get a goal or two. Going brunette is something of a change..don’t think you can hide, your sunshine smile will give you away every time. All the best from your Ontario relatives.
Life begins at 20
This is what Steve is feeling these days. He is home for Mid-term break and to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. He is all grown up now. I can detect that he still loves his bed and the comforts of home even though he has become independent. The boys were talking at the dinner table tonight that they could not believe that Steve was now 20. Twenty seemed so old to them. I just listened and smiled quietly to myself.
