Ontario Winter Games

podium finishWhile everyone else has fled to places of fairer weather I headed north to Collingwood with Brian. He was participating in the Ontario Winter Games over the weekend. He raced Friday and Saturday and came in 9th for both his Classic and Skate style races. This is great as he made top ten. His sr boys relay made podium and they received the bronze medal. They were able to do really well on this final race of the season as the gold squad was at nationals in Thunderbay. This gave way for Brian and the other kids on the silver devo squad (b team) to place well and get provincial points.

Martha on the Mend

I have been battling a cold for over a week. I go no where without my box of kleenex and a spritzer of hand sanitizer! The post nasal drip had moved to my chest and developed into an annoying cough. Tom and the girls cringed every time I hacked. Last night I was up till 3 in the morning coughing, gagging, wheezing and not able to sleep. When I got banished to the couch to sleep I knew it was time to go see a doctor!

I went to the new walk in clinic at the Great Canadian Superstore and was seen within the hour. The doctor was very thorough and diagnosed me with bronchitis and a sinus infection. I a happy to say after one day on amoxicillin I am feeling much better. Let’s hope no one else in the house catches this bug just before March Break!

Merry Christmas, 2005

I hope that everyone has their birds in the oven by now, gone to church and opened their presents and not necessarily in that order. We had a fun time last night celebrating Christmas Eve. I hosted our family get together and decided on doing appetizers, salads and desserts. It was so much more relaxing for all. (Especially for me not having to worry about serving everyone). The weather is mild and the snow has practically melted. The house is quiet now, the boys enjoying their gifts. The item of choice is electronic of course so they are busy getting familiar with set up etc. Have a happy day all. Images available here.

First Snow of the Season

1st snow of 2005Laura and Martha awoke today with visions of a “snow day” in their heads but alas it was only buses that were canceled. While they packed up for school, I backed the car up onto the road (also not plowed yet) so they could trundle off into town. It looks like we got about 10 inches of snow over night and it’s our first accumulation for the season. Jaclyn had today off work, so her and Josh went to Toronto to visit with some close friends for the weekend. It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas. :xmascheer

Worth the Two Bucks

lotto.jpgI was thoroughly entertained this past weekend. With the 649 Lottery hovering around 30 million I went out and bought two tickets for Saturdays draw. I hadn’t bought a ticket in 20 yrs it seemed and I felt like a rookie laying my money down. I phoned all my friends to say that I was going to win. I was certain since my horoscope said so.

Wilma, I’m home

wilma.jpgBrace yourself for the mother of all storms. This is the eve before the winds make landfall once again. We are all glued to the tv watching the incredible devastation that has just taken place in Mexico. The winds have started to blow towards Naples and beautiful Marco Island. It is amazing that these hurricanes have hit the resort areas that we all have visited and loved. We are not in harms way as we chose not to fly to Florida this morning. Pray that the aftermath is not as bad as predicted.
