The roads through the “Mountain State” (WV) were extremely slippery today. We discovered the importance of the sign Watch for Ice on Bridge. Tom did a fantastic job keeping the truck and trailer (mostly) between the white lines but it was white knuckle for about 5 hrs today. The temp was -6 with a steady icy mist going through the mountains so I am so glad we came through unscathed. When we passed through the last tunnel in Virginia and started down that steep hill into North Carolina the sun came out and we donned our sunglasses. As we continued south we watched the temperatures go from minus to positive and finally the wet salty roads were thankfully behind us. We stopped at Orangeburg, SC for the night and will head into Florida tomorrow.

Happy St Patrick’s Day
Happy “To Hell with the Bell” Day
This day has finally come. I know that you have been dreaming of this day for a very long time. Does it seem bitter sweet? Welcome to the fellowship club of the young and idle. I know that you did not sleep in today as you were rushing off to have coffee with fellow retire-eeze and toasting “To Hell with the Bell” with that second cupa. Nice!!! Retirement for Martha
As of June 27 Martha was officially retired after 31 years of teaching. She was asked back to plant some trees that was dropped off at the school (not sure why only her?) and she surrendered the school keys on the way out. Martha was able to celebrate the occasion with co-workers at an afternoon school tea/bbq and also an end of year staff party at Bob ‘N’ Buoys Restaurant in Mitchell’s Bay. So far she’s handling the change well and is looking forward to her future travels. Picture albums after the jump. Continue reading
Lucas on the Catwalk
Lucas awoke this morning and nonchalantly mentioned over breakfast, his photoshoot was published on CanadianGeographic’s website.
The Chatham Camera Club was contacted recently (via their website) and asked if CCC would like to be the second photoclub ever featured on CanadianGeographic’s national online magazine. Martha and all the Chatham Camera Club members were invited to submit a couple photos to accompany the article and it was just published this morning. Congrats to Lucas, Martha and the CCC. Happy Birthday Martha and Eileen
While in Florida, Martha had a big problem with her upcoming 54th birthday. She has never fretted about aging before, but now with retirement in the near future, this mile-marker seemed to hit home. She said all she could think about was the old Beatles song with the lyrics “Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I’m fifty-four.” Luckily she told Eileen her dilemma and concerns who promptly laughed and said not to worry, the correct lyrics are “…when I’m 64“. Disaster averted! Tonight we are invited to Jaclyn’s house for a birthday dinner and celebration.
Spa Day
There is a new spa in Chatham called Radiance and Jackie arranged and treated me to a wonderful mother-daughter head to toe Spa Day. Neither of us had ever done anything like this before so we tried it all. It truely was a day of pampering! Continue reading
Martha on the Mend
I have been battling a cold for over a week. I go no where without my box of kleenex and a spritzer of hand sanitizer! The post nasal drip had moved to my chest and developed into an annoying cough. Tom and the girls cringed every time I hacked. Last night I was up till 3 in the morning coughing, gagging, wheezing and not able to sleep. When I got banished to the couch to sleep I knew it was time to go see a doctor!
I went to the new walk in clinic at the Great Canadian Superstore and was seen within the hour. The doctor was very thorough and diagnosed me with bronchitis and a sinus infection. I a happy to say after one day on amoxicillin I am feeling much better. Let’s hope no one else in the house catches this bug just before March Break!
