Geocaching Event

geocache-logo2Tom and I had a wonderful time on Saturday at the Discover Petrolia Geocaching Event – IV. In spite of the cool weather there were 142 geocachers who attended and I am happy to say the rain stayed away all day. Great food… fun games… great prizes… and most important, lots of geocachers from near and far to meet and greet. We even had time to do some searching and I won two event prizes for geocaching. I surpassed my 150th find this day so it will always be a memorable event for me. Continue reading

Brigden Fall Fair

Brigden Fall FairThe weather was nice so we decided to drive up to the Brigden Fair today. We have never been to this classic country fair and it was a treat that shouldn’t be missed. Everything including livestock judging, machinery displays, craft exhibitions, helicopter rides, motocross stunt show, midway rides, and the classically hokey tractor square dance. They expected around 70k attendance and it looked to be well on it’s way to achieving their goal. Continue reading

A Sense of Adventure.

geocachinglogoOn Monday, Bill, Jean, Tom and I went out to Mitchell’s Bay for lunch at Bob and Bouys. We tried their perch on a boat and it was very tasty. On our route home I introduced Jean and Bill to the hobby of Geocaching. We traveled to the villages of Grande Point, Dover Centre, Ounga and Countryview Golf Course on a quest to find hidden treasures. We were successful! With the help of my GPS we found 4 very different caches. Bill even registered his finds on geocaching.com and chose the name gobigblue. Good luck finding further caches in and around Kentucky. Pictures after the jump. Continue reading

A Royal Weekend

Oh what a glorious Labour Day weekend! Jean and Bill brought the nice weather with them and they were here just in time for the long weekend festivities. They were on their way back home from visiting with John and Rosemary in Markdale. On Saturday we went to Chris and Donna Masterson’s 4Oth Wedding Anniversary party that was held at their farm on Fairview Line. It was so much fun to see everyone enjoying themselves and celebrating with Chris and Donna. We got to meet Chris Jr’s fiancé and hold baby Zoe. Chris’ band The Pub Crawlers entertained the guests and Julie and Jeff got to show us some dance moves. Roesch’s Meats and More catered the delicious pork BBQ. Link to some pictures from the Masterson Party.

Where did the Summer go?

Ahh where did the summer go? It seemed to go by so quickly! Last weekend, Jackie, Tom and I were on the deck enjoying a brew with the shrill of katydids in the background, when a yellowed leaf drifted ever so softly and caught our eye. When it landed we looked at each other and we knew in our hearts it was the end summer. The nights are cool and it is nice to sleep with the windows open and be lulled to sleep by the sound of crickets and frogs.

A Few Pictures to Share

Hi all, I recently got directions from Tom on how to add a few pictures to share with the extended family here using Picasaweb. The pictures are not organized yet but you can see some of our images from our cottage and area near Fernie, BC that we have been slowly finishing in our spare time. There are also photos from Nicole’s campus and residence at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY plus a picture of my Dad’s original chair that we had reupholstered.

Happy Birthday Laura

IMG_8920Today is Laura’s 21st birthday and to celebrate she requested having brunch at the Country View Golf Course. We met Jason and her there around 11 am and we had a very nice and relaxing Sunday brunch. It was humorous that Martha and Jason had the similar ideas for birthday presents. Thank goodness for return privileges and Martha still has the receipts. Best wishes and hugs to our little girl. Love Mom and Dad. Continue reading

Discovering the Dead Sea Scrolls

IMG_8832Martha and I ventured by Go train into Toronto and headed up to the ROM by subway to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were on display for all to see. We were impressed but were surprised that they were only small fragments on 8 cells. Thank goodness for multi media display boards and video clips or we really would not know what we were experiencing. The Vietnamese Lunch was great and shopping on Bloor Street Yorkville was an experience in itself. Exhausted we made our way home after a full day. We had fun the next morning applying the “Dead Sea Black Mud and Mineral Salt Mask” product that we bought. Now that is an experience you don’t want to miss!! Lots of pictures after the jump. The Summer of 2009

first-carOh to be young and have your own wheels. The kids seem to be conserving gas or working like crazy as I have not heard of any recent “Road Trips”. Steve was the first to get into the drivers seat of a 2005 Royal Blue Ford Escape. Laura over much anxiety put her trust and coin in a 2010 White Toyota Corolla. Nicole is bombing around off road in her 2005 Silver Nissan Xtera. May you all only drive as fast as your guardian angels can fly.
