Bako a catch in MLB draft

piratesFinally, Peter got his wish. He was chosen Wednesday afternoon by the Pittsburgh Pirates with their 15th-round selection, 445th overall. Peter said, “I had my computer right next to me and every so often I would kind of glance at it. I was watching a movie and I glanced over and saw my name pop up right when I looked over. I just stared at the screen for a good 20 minutes.”

Peter knows that he has a long road ahead before potentially reaching baseball’s pinnacle. He’s been told he needs to get bigger and stronger than his current 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame and a few years in the minors before donning a big-league uniform.

My New ‘Do…

Jaclyn came over this morning and treated me to a new colour job and haircut this morning. I decided to lose the blond highlights and go back to my natural hair colour (well from a few years ago). I think she did a good job. Check out the full service Redneck Salon after the jump. Continue reading

Geocaching Weekend

geocachinglogoOn Saturday I went to my first geocache function. Some of the local hobbyists organized a CITO event at a nearby Crown Land woodlot on Pinehearst Line. Geocachers from Essex, Lampton, and Kent counties attended and they got over 2 pickup loads of trash carried out and registered 12 new caches for others to find. Later in the evening they held a meet & greet dinner at Glitters Restaurant in Chatham. Door prizes galore and a nice bunch of people to share a meal with. Continue reading

Welcome to Geocaching

international symbol for geocachingFor Mother’s Day, my family surprised me with a hand held GPS device that could be used for playing an outdoors GPS “treasure hunting” game called Geocaching. People hide small, waterproof containers, called “Caches,” in various spots all over the world (currently over 800,000 locations). The basic idea is to locate these hidden containers and then log and share your experiences on-line. Continue reading

Teeing off in Texas

We decided to start the Spring off right and get in a few rounds of early golf. We traded in our timeshare for a townhouse in the woods at a place 3hrs east of Dallas TX called Holly Lake Ranch. It was a gated community for Texans wishing to get away from the concrete jungle and head for the hills and the “cabin in the woods” experience. We were glad to have our Tomtom GPS to guide us on those dark country backroads. Our place was lovely and we were surprised that it had no highspeed or blackberry service. It was a true getaway for us.
