Crystal Mountain Vacation

CMResort.jpgMartha and I have joined the Bakos for a spur of the moment three day golfing getaway. Nick had reserved a beautiful and spacious two bedroom suite at the Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, MI. Located in the NW corner of lower Michigan, it is an area that we have not previously enjoyed. So far we have been blessed with amazing weather and vistas of the surrounding golf resort. You can check out a few of our pictures here. Continue reading

Surprise Birthday Luncheon

CrocusesUpon arrival to Vancouver we rented a car and drove to Auntie Joanne’s. We were greeted with cherry blossoms about to burst, daffodils, crocuses, and fragrant flowering jasmine as we passed through the entry gates to Auntie Joe’s condo. Uncle Ted had arrived via taxi from Maple Ridge and we had a wonderful afternoon noshing on a catered sandwich lunch from Stong’s. All looked well, vibrant and happy. Both seemed to have lots of energy and they enjoyed catching up on news and chatting with Brian and myself. We took a trip down nostalgia lane and drove around Dunbar, Point Grey and West Van. We also had lovely visits with Auntie Maureen and Auntie Mickie in their nursing homes. Check out my photos.

Spring Showers on the West Coast

egg_1.gifHappy Easter everyone. I awoke to the sound of pouring rain outside. The Easter Bunny found us in Squamish, funny thing eh? Brian is racing the race of his life today. A 30km on the Olympic Race trail. It is classic style Nordic with fresh snow in the tracks. It snowed 28cm last night. We have no snow in Squamish (only rain) and after a 45min drive up the coast towards Whistler in the Callaghan Valley, the snow banks are higher than the cars. It has been a wonderful holiday and experience of a life time. Check out my photo album here.

Beautiful British Columbia

magnoliaAs we ease down the road from the airport we are welcomed by a row of magnolia trees in full bloom. Welcome to BC. Auntie Joanne catered a beautiful luncheon upon our arrival and we spent the day visiting with her and Uncle Ted. They both looked great and had lots of energy and stories to share. I drove Brian around Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Point Grey, Downtown and West Van. We did the tour thing and it was really fun. I was happy to be back.

FMB – Day 6-7 – Then Flying Home

fmb_sunrise.jpgWe awoke a little late to capture the sunrise on our final days on Estero Is. but today again promises to be bright and sunny. Martha wanted to get her final serving of the daily ‘fireman show’ on the beach (2nd time) and drags me along to savor all the bikini action. I must say it was entertaining to see all the scantily dressed ladies enjoying themselves. By mid-afternoon we returned to the condo to enjoy a cooling swim in the pool and to plan our last dinner outing for the week. Life on the Beach Day 5

IMG_0049_1.jpgThis morning we woke up and went to the Gulfshore Grill to have breakfast with Mernah and Ron (the people who rented us their FMB timeshare for Xmas 2004). We all had a nice leisurely breakfast watching the action from our beach front table while sharing stories of things to do and places to rent in the area.

After breakfast Martha was drawn to the crowds at Town Square while I went back to our place for a swim and a promise to meet her again at 2pm for drinks at the SOB. Continue reading

Life on the Beach – Day 3

private beachThis part of Florida is a really nice spot to vacation. The weather yesterday was 79 and today it was 78 with some afternoon overcast and humidity. We are lathered in sun screen but I still got burnt on my shoulders today. At Fort Myers Beach, the sand is hard packed, fine (almost like talc), and as white as can be. Last weeks storm has churned up the sea so the water is a murky greenish brown. Continue reading
