Tom and I had a wonderful time on Saturday at the Discover Petrolia Geocaching Event – IV. In spite of the cool weather there were 142 geocachers who attended and I am happy to say the rain stayed away all day. Great food… fun games… great prizes… and most important, lots of geocachers from near and far to meet and greet. We even had time to do some searching and I won two event prizes for geocaching. I surpassed my 150th find this day so it will always be a memorable event for me. Continue reading

A Sense of Adventure.
On Monday, Bill, Jean, Tom and I went out to Mitchell’s Bay for lunch at Bob and Bouys. We tried their perch on a boat and it was very tasty. On our route home I introduced Jean and Bill to the hobby of Geocaching. We traveled to the villages of Grande Point, Dover Centre, Ounga and Countryview Golf Course on a quest to find hidden treasures. We were successful! With the help of my GPS we found 4 very different caches. Bill even registered his finds on geocaching.com and chose the name gobigblue. Good luck finding further caches in and around Kentucky. Pictures after the jump. Continue reading
A Royal Weekend
Oh what a glorious Labour Day weekend! Jean and Bill brought the nice weather with them and they were here just in time for the long weekend festivities. They were on their way back home from visiting with John and Rosemary in Markdale. On Saturday we went to Chris and Donna Masterson’s 4Oth Wedding Anniversary party that was held at their farm on Fairview Line. It was so much fun to see everyone enjoying themselves and celebrating with Chris and Donna. We got to meet Chris Jr’s fiancé and hold baby Zoe. Chris’ band The Pub Crawlers entertained the guests and Julie and Jeff got to show us some dance moves. Roesch’s Meats and More catered the delicious pork BBQ. Link to some pictures from the Masterson Party.
Where did the Summer go?
Ahh where did the summer go? It seemed to go by so quickly! Last weekend, Jackie, Tom and I were on the deck enjoying a brew with the shrill of katydids in the background, when a yellowed leaf drifted ever so softly and caught our eye. When it landed we looked at each other and we knew in our hearts it was the end summer. The nights are cool and it is nice to sleep with the windows open and be lulled to sleep by the sound of crickets and frogs.
My New ‘Do…
Jaclyn came over this morning and treated me to a new colour job and haircut this morning. I decided to lose the blond highlights and go back to my natural hair colour (well from a few years ago). I think she did a good job. Check out the full service Redneck Salon after the jump. Continue reading
Geocaching Weekend
On Saturday I went to my first geocache function. Some of the local hobbyists organized a CITO event at a nearby Crown Land woodlot on Pinehearst Line. Geocachers from Essex, Lampton, and Kent counties attended and they got over 2 pickup loads of trash carried out and registered 12 new caches for others to find. Later in the evening they held a meet & greet dinner at Glitters Restaurant in Chatham. Door prizes galore and a nice bunch of people to share a meal with. Continue reading
Doing dishes and laundry with a smile!
You all will be very proud of us… we finally called a plumber, actually two, to help us with our plumbing procrastinations. Many of you had seen masking tape on our kitchen faucet so we now have modern taps that don’t come off in your hands or drip when you use them, handles that move effortlessly, and full flowing water, yes even hot water and a new stainless steel sink. Continue reading
Welcome to Geocaching
For Mother’s Day, my family surprised me with a hand held GPS device that could be used for playing an outdoors GPS “treasure hunting” game called Geocaching. People hide small, waterproof containers, called “Caches,” in various spots all over the world (currently over 800,000 locations). The basic idea is to locate these hidden containers and then log and share your experiences on-line. Continue reading
A Walk in the Woods
Today my friend Patty came over with her camera to take some wildflower photos. It was such a nice day we went down to the bush to see what was blooming this week. We managed to capture photos of various flowers, plants and fungi. Take a peek at the rest of my photos after the break. Continue reading
Heading Home
It is hard to believe we have been away from home for 7weeks and it is now time to head back. The time has been so enjoyable both at Carol’s Cottage and at the Sea Isle Condos. We have many fond memories to hold us till next year…
We left Key Colony Beach on Sunday March 1st at 10:30 after I had a chance to have one more swim in the pool and a last dip in the Ocean. The Bike and belongings all loaded with precision into the truck and trailer and we headed up the Florida Turnpike to Ocala Florida. The temp when we left the Keys was 29C and as we traveled north it slowly got cooler till it dropped to 10C.
On Monday we were watching the snow that was blasting the eastern seaboard and decided our next stop over would be McDonough Georgia which is just south of Atlanta. The roads have been good and the travel scenic. We are heading to Bill and Jean’s today and should be at Harrington Lake by supper.
