Happy New Year Everyone

happy_new_year.jpgWell 2008 certainly has been exciting. If the sudden downturn in the stock market didn’t make you cry, the flood in the basement did!. What a curse and a blessing all wrapped into one. It has been the new age Noah’s arc. Two by two they went into retrieve, recovery and deduce mode. You are starting the new year 2009 with a clean, fresh start. Baby steps from here on in. The burden has been lifted or should I say “washed away”. I’ll toast my new years glass to the survivors of 2008. Cheers!!!

Happy “To Hell with the Bell” Day

hell with bell bkfastThis day has finally come. I know that you have been dreaming of this day for a very long time. Does it seem bitter sweet? Welcome to the fellowship club of the young and idle. I know that you did not sleep in today as you were rushing off to have coffee with fellow retire-eeze and toasting “To Hell with the Bell” with that second cupa. Nice!!! Retirement for Martha

Retirement.jpgAs of June 27 Martha was officially retired after 31 years of teaching. She was asked back to plant some trees that was dropped off at the school (not sure why only her?) and she surrendered the school keys on the way out. Martha was able to celebrate the occasion with co-workers at an afternoon school tea/bbq and also an end of year staff party at Bob ‘N’ Buoys Restaurant in Mitchell’s Bay. So far she’s handling the change well and is looking forward to her future travels. Picture albums after the jump. Continue reading

Lucas on the Catwalk

lucasLucas awoke this morning and nonchalantly mentioned over breakfast, his photoshoot was published on CanadianGeographic’s website.

The Chatham Camera Club was contacted recently (via their website) and asked if CCC would like to be the second photoclub ever featured on CanadianGeographic’s national online magazine. Martha and all the Chatham Camera Club members were invited to submit a couple photos to accompany the article and it was just published this morning. Congrats to Lucas, Martha and the CCC. Sunny and Blue sky

deck chairIt was so nice yesterday that I thought that I would go out and sit in the sun, read my book and sip a cup of coffee. One problem! The snow was piled up and I quickly retreated back inside. Here are a few sights around our place this beautiful spring March day. photo album link

Edit Tom: I also noticed that Angela Royalty-McCoun has uploaded some recent snow pictures from Ohio to share.

Laura is home for the Holidays

These last two weeks have been a very busy time for Laura. She has been studying hard, finishing up reports, getting tested in her clinical and writing her final exams. She had 11 exams/tests and done well in all. Way to go girl!

Tom drove down to Windsor on Friday afternoon to bring her home for the holidays. They stopped off at Costco to do some last minute Christmas shopping. Laura will be home for some R&R and then head back to start a new semester on January 7th.

Laura was able to get back in ‘home mode’ with pjs on till noon etc. Lucas was extremely happy to have Laura home and has been sticking by her like glue. I know as parents we are happy to have our little nests full again.

Laura’s Big Moving Day

IMG_9261.jpgWith twirling emotions of excitement and sadness, we helped Laura move into St Clair College Residence today. Laura has been planning and packing bits and pieces for the last couple of weeks and today was her big day to flee from the nest. With a body crushing hug goodbye for Lucas the cat, and a quick check around the house, we were on our way to Windsor by 10am. Continue reading

College Tour

IMG_9177.jpgToday Tom, Laura and I headed to Windsor to check out Laura’s new home…
the St. Clair College Campus and Residence. We have passed by many times but this was our first time looking around. It was nice to explore the halls and classrooms without the throngs of people. We even got a personal tour of the dorm suites. Tom enjoyed the wireless high speed as he tested out Laura’s laptop and downloaded a few podcasts.
