Life begins at 20

DSCN4008.JPGThis is what Steve is feeling these days. He is home for Mid-term break and to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. He is all grown up now. I can detect that he still loves his bed and the comforts of home even though he has become independent. The boys were talking at the dinner table tonight that they could not believe that Steve was now 20. Twenty seemed so old to them. I just listened and smiled quietly to myself.

Our Thanksgiving Report

marthas_turkey.jpgWhat a difference a day makes. The summer like heat and humidity over the Thanksgiving long weekend has given way to the damp chilling breeze of autumn. We were able to harvest and bin all the soybeans over the weekend and I still managed to enjoy sharing a sit down turkey meal with family. Martha prepared a lovely feast while the kids did a yard clean-up of various trimmings that have accumulated over the past few weeks. Continue reading

My boys are all MEN now!

brian_peter_5yrs_oldWhen I asked Brian, “what does turning 18, mean to you?” He said rats, now I don’t get free ATM banking anymore! a chip off the old banking block I guess. The boys were not too thrilled with their birthday gifts this year. They said now they could tell all their friends they got kitchen appliances and would be ready to entertain and throw a party. I got Peter the Magic Bullet Personal Blender and Brian a Quesadilla Maker. Personally I think they can make good use out of these items. I bet they will use them almost every day…hmmm now I can say “whats cookin?”
All grown-up now. My job is done.

Laura’s Big Moving Day

IMG_9261.jpgWith twirling emotions of excitement and sadness, we helped Laura move into St Clair College Residence today. Laura has been planning and packing bits and pieces for the last couple of weeks and today was her big day to flee from the nest. With a body crushing hug goodbye for Lucas the cat, and a quick check around the house, we were on our way to Windsor by 10am. Continue reading

Crusin’ On Lake St Clair

boatingOn Sunday Tom and I went boating with our good friends Tony and Bonnie Srnicek. We arrived at the Lighthouse Marina shortly after 1pm and before we knew it, we were casting off and skimming across Lake St Clair. It was a perfect day with clear blue skies and a warm 28 degrees. The water was very calm and the wake was mesmerizing as it sparkled in the sun. We headed out across the lake to a popular swimming hole called the Sandbar. Continue reading

College Tour

IMG_9177.jpgToday Tom, Laura and I headed to Windsor to check out Laura’s new home…
the St. Clair College Campus and Residence. We have passed by many times but this was our first time looking around. It was nice to explore the halls and classrooms without the throngs of people. We even got a personal tour of the dorm suites. Tom enjoyed the wireless high speed as he tested out Laura’s laptop and downloaded a few podcasts.

Summer Bollywood Wedding

hinduwedding.jpgOttawa, the nation’s capital and the Chateau Laurier was the perfect location to celebrate an elaborate Hindu wedding. Our dear friends, Asha and Hiraan Perera celebrated their son’s wedding celebration in festive elegance. Hersh and Julie met their guests at the Friday night Sangeet (dinner, dance and entertainment). Saturday was a day of parading down the street to the Chateau Laurier to greet his new bride and her family. They were wed in the Chateau in a traditional Hindu ceremony and then onto the French Corridor for an afternoon tea and sweets, cocktails and appetizers were served prior to the grand entrance to the Grande Ballroom for the very elaborate dinner dance. The Bako family sat with the Butani family and we had a terrific time. The boys first wedding and they were very impressed.
