Winter a’Last

x-country seasonWell, well, well… The leaves are gone and the temperature has dropped. Finally Winter has come! Flurries occur here almost everyday and I can hardly sit still in my seat at school! I am waiting for the big snowfall to happen. My favourite season of the year has come! I can hardly wait to hit those trail up North. I have my first race next week. Wish me luck! Just think of it, I will be going from a winter wonderland to a tropical paradise in under a week!

Tundra Swan Migration

click to enlarge - tundra_swans1.jpgLucas and I were sitting out on the back deck enjoying the arrival of dusk when we were treated to the trumpeting of approaching swans. They sounded low and close but we couldn’t see them for the cedar trees surrounding the back yard. A whole calliope of honking swans seemed to be right on top of us when suddenly they seemed to hush when they skimmed overhead. The wings all beating in unison and this strange sound of them slicing through the air. It sounded like the whirling of a bicycle race whizzing by your side and I sensed that slight tug of air. I couldn’t believe how close they flew and by the time the seventh or eighth flock flew directly overhead, it finally dawned on me to go grab a camera. Continue reading

Silver Bullet Moving Co.

washer/dryer pickupJosh and Jackie ventured up to Mississauga with their trusty pickup to collect and transport a few items from my garage back down to Kent Bridge. With smiles on everyone’s faces the washer and dryer and a few miscellaneous items were loaded up and strapped down. Laundry will be a breeze now once they are set up in their own basement. I’m glad that they will be able to use them. Recycling is a good thing.

Report Card Time -once again!

You can be rest assured that Martha is burning the midnight oil getting her report cards in order. This has always been a major chore and the Gillier Family picks up the pieces as the teacher gets her work done, filed and posted. You can almost breath the fresh air Martha. What are you doing for yourself to de-stress?

Laura’s New Job

colesbooks.jpgLaura came home yesterday and announced she went to an interview after school at the downtown mall and got offered a job working at Coles Bookstore. She starts on Sunday. …Hmmm, I wonder what I can start charging her now for room and board. ;-)

Now what can I make for dinner?

lg fridgeEnter my kitchen and you will see a shiny new fridge. Stainless steel I’m not sure is the route to go as I’m already eyeing the finger smudges. This is all forgotten when I open the LG french door style fridge and I can see everything clearly. No more rummaging and rearranging jars and the like to get something out of the fridge. Milk, juice, water anyone? Get it yourself, it’s on the door!

Horray winter is finally here

Hardwood HillsHi everyone, Brian here, I guess that you are all thinking that I am crazy. Tomorrow at 9:30am I will be hitting the trails at Hardwood Hills. I’m not really in shape yet for the ski season as I missed the fall fitness training program. Having the flu really set me back. I’m hoping that when I get to Hardwood tomorrow that my brand new shiny red skis will be there, they have been handpicked from the Peltonen Factory in Finland. The skiis are specific to my weight and height for optimal performance!

Halloween at one-oh-eight-one-TWO

Hi everyone, it’s Josh:
I just had my first good ol’ fashioned Gillier country Halloween. I gotta say it was pretty swell. I got to carve some pumpkins and scare Duncan with my ancient Japanese karate master mask. We had just enough kids to take all of the grab-bags that Jackie made up before work, so no one went home empty-handed. Everyone who came wondered where Jackie was. It’s really too bad she had to work.

And now it’s Jackie’s turn:
Halloween is the best time of year. Although this year I didn’t plan a costume ahead of time, I still managed to grab some stuff around the house and make something. I showed up at work as a Poké-Master. No one knew what that was ???

dumpkin.jpgThis year was special because it was Duncan’s first Halloween and he was intrigued by the pumpkins. He gave me lots of help this morning when I was gutting and carving. By help, I mean he was eating seeds and getting in the way. Even though he was a bit of a pest, we decided to make a pumpkin just for him. First we tried to get him to claw or bite a pumpkin so that it could be “his.” He didn’t really like that idea, and chose to lick it instead. So Josh found a nice Great Dane stencil online and I carved it into one of our pumpkins. We call it: The Dumpkin.

Lots of love to everyone,
Jackie and Josh
