Insert house here. Within a few months there will be a farm styled house and barn…weather permitting. Continue reading
Our “Juan”derful Guests
We had a great visit with Juan Sr and Jr. after we convinced them to cut Ottawa from the route and stay in our area for a few days. They had a chance to visit the city and we had a chance to reminisce. Juan hasn’t changed at all and remembers everything with such excitement. They left with chocolate cake in their bellies and 500 km on their bikes heading west on the Caledon Trail. Hopefully it won’t take another 30 years to visit again. Continue reading
Visitor From the Past
His first visit to Canada was in 1966 and he has finally returned but now with his 15 yr old son, Juan Jr.
Juan Puron was an 11 year old exchange student from Mexico that chose Canada as his destination to learn and hone his English skills. He must have enjoyed himself because he kept coming back each summer season well into his teen years. In decades past the Gilliers have had the pleasure of visits from most of Juan’s siblings (including his parents) and this year Juan and his son arrived on bicycles to tour Ontario almost 40 years later. His early memories of Canada are exact and detailed and he wishes to share new experiences with his son on their bicycle journey through Ontario. Continue reading
Calgary Stampede Parade
Howdy. I wonder how many Canadians were watching the parade on t.v. when Germany was fighting for third place with Portugal. I was switching from station to station. It looks like you Calgarians are getting those beautiful Alberta blue skies. Have fun at the Stampede.
Sea of Red and White greets Canada Day Parade!
On Canada Day Laura and I went to Tecumseh Park to have lunch, take in the entertainment and watch the dragon boat races. We dawned our official red and white colours and lined our lawn chairs along King Street at Kornackers. Lots of teacher friends gathered there as well to enjoy the Canada Day Parade. The parade began at the Courthouse on Grand Ave., and continued down Lacroix and King Streets to Tecumseh Park. The parade featured local celebrities, including Fergie Jenkins, Diane Gagner, Dave Vankesteren and Pat Hoy. The curbside kids young and old seemed to enjoy the EZE Riders, who squirted water at them as they drove past. Continue reading
Home Alone
Today we are practicing to be empty nesters. All three boys are away for the entire month of July. We stayed up late last night drinking wine out on the deck. What a beautiful steamy hot humid night. Then we slept in late and woke up to an empty house. We are out side painting our pool to take advantage of this sunny holiday Monday.
Kansas City Here I Come
Stephen signs with Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. He accepted a very generous athletic/academic scholarship and will be playing baseball for the Hawks this September. He is persuing a 4yr degree in Sports Science, BScn-Human Kinetics. We are all singing the tune and thrilled at Steve’s choice.
Weekend In Ohio
Jean and I are spending a weekend with the grandaughters while Angela and Eric have some time away. Angela and Eric went out for dinner Friday evening and got a room for the night. They have tickets to tonights NASCAR Busch series race at Sparta’s Kentucky Speedway tonight and I’m sure we’ll be rooting for Eric’s favorite Kevin Harvick. I will be watching the race on FX channel (Eric has almost turned me into a NASCAR fan). It is about 90°F and we are chilling in the comfort of the air conditioning and playing with the grandkids.
There’s No Place Like Home
Stephen and Nick just got back from a fantastic 4 day trip to Kansas City, Missouri. Their purpose was to check out a wonderful opportunity to attend a US University on a baseball/academic scholarship. Rockhurst Hawks are very interested in offering Steve a place as a starter in their Lineup. Rockhurst University (additional info) is a private Jesuit University situated on beautiful grounds in Kansas City. The offer is very impressive and now is the hour for Steve to make his choice. We are all very much excited for him. They even took in a KC Royals game at Kaufmann Stadium to watch Paul Bako (no relation) catch. Weather was hot 37°C and the city was clean and modern. You can see all their pictures in our photo album.
Prom 2006
Stephen and his girlfriend Kailey joined up with friends at a pre-prom party for group pictures and Mumms champagne to toast the grads of 2006. It was amazing to see everyone in suits and prom dresses like something out of the “OC”. It was all glam, bling and spike heels. All these kids are jocks so it was nice to see them in something other than sweats and sneakers and ponytails. They all traveled in a luxury tour bus to the Mississauga Convention Centre for the Prom Dinner Dance. The bus also took them to the after party. These kids really know how to go in style.
