Houston, “we have new kitchen taps”. Yesterday a tradesman came to install my new Canadian Tire tap set for the kitchen sink. While he had his nose under the cupboards he also installed 3 new shutoff valves for me. Our plumbing is ancient and we needed the upgrade. Repairmen don’t come cheap, $250 (cash) later the job was done and I’m a happy camper now.

Feliz Navidad
Hola from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic [map]. The Bako family has just returned from a pre Christmas family fun in the sun vacation. It was a time to regroup, relax and to be together as a family. We have wanted to do this for some time, knowing that the boys are all grown up now and soon will not want to holiday with their family. We escaped to the all inclusive resort, Bahia Principe. The five star rating more than exceeded our expectations. The sun was hot, the drinks plentiful and the food was fabulous. When we had tried every drink on the bar menu, we knew it was time to come home. Continue reading
Winter a’Last
Well, well, well… The leaves are gone and the temperature has dropped. Finally Winter has come! Flurries occur here almost everyday and I can hardly sit still in my seat at school! I am waiting for the big snowfall to happen. My favourite season of the year has come! I can hardly wait to hit those trail up North. I have my first race next week. Wish me luck! Just think of it, I will be going from a winter wonderland to a tropical paradise in under a week!
Silver Bullet Moving Co.
Josh and Jackie ventured up to Mississauga with their trusty pickup to collect and transport a few items from my garage back down to Kent Bridge. With smiles on everyone’s faces the washer and dryer and a few miscellaneous items were loaded up and strapped down. Laundry will be a breeze now once they are set up in their own basement. I’m glad that they will be able to use them. Recycling is a good thing.
Now what can I make for dinner?
Enter my kitchen and you will see a shiny new fridge. Stainless steel I’m not sure is the route to go as I’m already eyeing the finger smudges. This is all forgotten when I open the LG french door style fridge and I can see everything clearly. No more rummaging and rearranging jars and the like to get something out of the fridge. Milk, juice, water anyone? Get it yourself, it’s on the door!
Horray winter is finally here
Hi everyone, Brian here, I guess that you are all thinking that I am crazy. Tomorrow at 9:30am I will be hitting the trails at Hardwood Hills. I’m not really in shape yet for the ski season as I missed the fall fitness training program. Having the flu really set me back. I’m hoping that when I get to Hardwood tomorrow that my brand new shiny red skis will be there, they have been handpicked from the Peltonen Factory in Finland. The skiis are specific to my weight and height for optimal performance!
Give Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving Day everyone. Today we celebrated by bbqing this honking big Prime rib roast. The weather was magnificent so we cooked and sat down to eat in the late afternoon. It was so nice out that we could have actually eaten outside but I chose to set up at the dining room table. We surrounded ourselves with harvest vegetables and enjoyed the picture perfect roast. The mandatory pumpkin pie followed and now it is off to hockey practise for the boys. Have a wonderful day tomorrow and best wishes from the Bako’s. Continue reading
Cottage Retreat
Nick and I were invited up to Canning Lake near Minden in the Haliburton Lake district. Our Friends Keith and Cathy have just completed the construction of a beautiful dream cottage. They tore down their old trappers styled cottage to build this modern two story, post and beam cottage on the same lot footprint plus some. The weather was typical for fall, the colours were magnificent and the food, wine and company grand. Nice getaway for us. [Weekend Pictures] Continue reading
“I Am 16 Going on 17”
Well what I meant to say was “WE”. Happy Birthday Peter and Brian. The weather in September is usually glorious with blue skies and warm sunshine. This must be the first rainy and cool birthday that you have had in 17 years. The boys are in an earlybird Hockey tournament and the first game is tonight. So that is how we are going to spend the evening. Typical eh!
Mickey Mantle World Series
Peter was in McKinney Texas over the past 7 days participating in the US National 16 and under Baseball World Series. His Ontario Blue Jay Team earned the coveted spot by winning the Long Island New York, Northeast Regional Qualifiers. Off to Texas they flew. A different species of Snow birds this time and all eyes were on the Canadians. They played in 110°F heat and competed with the best teams in the US. They beat out Florida and lost to Texas and California. A dream come true for any young baseball player. They were treated to a real Texan BBQ at the Craig Ranch and Peter stepped off the plane proudly wearing a Stetson. :cowboy: Continue reading
