Happy New Year Everyone

happy_new_year.jpgWell 2008 certainly has been exciting. If the sudden downturn in the stock market didn’t make you cry, the flood in the basement did!. What a curse and a blessing all wrapped into one. It has been the new age Noah’s arc. Two by two they went into retrieve, recovery and deduce mode. You are starting the new year 2009 with a clean, fresh start. Baby steps from here on in. The burden has been lifted or should I say “washed away”. I’ll toast my new years glass to the survivors of 2008. Cheers!!!

Of Legal Drinking Age

brian_peter_5yrs_oldOn Sunday September 14th, Brian and Peter turned 19. They had their first birthday apart, Brian living in Toronto and going to Ryerson University and Peter living in Warner, Oklahoma going to Conner’s State College. They texted each other and wished each other a fun time. Brian met us for dinner and he then took us back to his dorm to show his grandmothers and parents where he will be spending the next 10 months. Happy Birthday boys.

Happy “To Hell with the Bell” Day

hell with bell bkfastThis day has finally come. I know that you have been dreaming of this day for a very long time. Does it seem bitter sweet? Welcome to the fellowship club of the young and idle. I know that you did not sleep in today as you were rushing off to have coffee with fellow retire-eeze and toasting “To Hell with the Bell” with that second cupa. Nice!!! Teen Years Bite the Dust

Laura at 20Happy 20th Birthday Laura. :bday: You have surfed your way through the teen years without a wipeout on the big wave. Today, you venture into a whole new realm of twenty something. When I phoned you tonight you said you were playing teen games and being a kid for the last time. Hey listen, just because the teen years have bit the dust doesn’t mean that you can’t still play and have fun. Enjoy!

Surprise Birthday Luncheon

CrocusesUpon arrival to Vancouver we rented a car and drove to Auntie Joanne’s. We were greeted with cherry blossoms about to burst, daffodils, crocuses, and fragrant flowering jasmine as we passed through the entry gates to Auntie Joe’s condo. Uncle Ted had arrived via taxi from Maple Ridge and we had a wonderful afternoon noshing on a catered sandwich lunch from Stong’s. All looked well, vibrant and happy. Both seemed to have lots of energy and they enjoyed catching up on news and chatting with Brian and myself. We took a trip down nostalgia lane and drove around Dunbar, Point Grey and West Van. We also had lovely visits with Auntie Maureen and Auntie Mickie in their nursing homes. Check out my photos.

Spring Showers on the West Coast

egg_1.gifHappy Easter everyone. I awoke to the sound of pouring rain outside. The Easter Bunny found us in Squamish, funny thing eh? Brian is racing the race of his life today. A 30km on the Olympic Race trail. It is classic style Nordic with fresh snow in the tracks. It snowed 28cm last night. We have no snow in Squamish (only rain) and after a 45min drive up the coast towards Whistler in the Callaghan Valley, the snow banks are higher than the cars. It has been a wonderful holiday and experience of a life time. Check out my photo album here.

Canadian National Nordic Ski Championships

Callaghan.jpgRacing with the best of the best can be a bit overwhelming, thrilling and chance of a life time. Brian’s cross country ski team “Team Hardwood” is participating in this event. Some of the racers have medaled and made top 10 in Canada. A great showing so far. Brian’s claim to fame so far is that he got DNF in his team relay because he got lapped by Robin McKeever a two time Olympian. We are having a great time being here at Whistler Olympic Park in Callaghan Valley. And YES we do have snow and plenty of it, not the rain as was forecasted.

Beautiful British Columbia

magnoliaAs we ease down the road from the airport we are welcomed by a row of magnolia trees in full bloom. Welcome to BC. Auntie Joanne catered a beautiful luncheon upon our arrival and we spent the day visiting with her and Uncle Ted. They both looked great and had lots of energy and stories to share. I drove Brian around Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Point Grey, Downtown and West Van. We did the tour thing and it was really fun. I was happy to be back.

Sunny and Blue sky

deck chairIt was so nice yesterday that I thought that I would go out and sit in the sun, read my book and sip a cup of coffee. One problem! The snow was piled up and I quickly retreated back inside. Here are a few sights around our place this beautiful spring March day. photo album link

Edit Tom: I also noticed that Angela Royalty-McCoun has uploaded some recent snow pictures from Ohio to share.
