Happy Birthday Laura

IMG_8920Today is Laura’s 21st birthday and to celebrate she requested having brunch at the Country View Golf Course. We met Jason and her there around 11 am and we had a very nice and relaxing Sunday brunch. It was humorous that Martha and Jason had the similar ideas for birthday presents. Thank goodness for return privileges and Martha still has the receipts. Best wishes and hugs to our little girl. Love Mom and Dad. Continue reading

Daytrip to Islamorada

CRW_5440.jpgToday we all hopped into the truck and ventured a little N to Islamorada. The girls had shown interest in visiting the Theater at the Sea marine mammal adventure park. It’s a very intimate and well laid out park with shaded walkways and little cafes mixed in amongst all the display areas. The girls didn’t want to swim with the dolphins (cool water required wet suit) so we only purchased observer passes. All the scheduled shows had minimal attendance and people were encouraged to come forward and interact with them. Continue reading

Day Trip to Key West

milezero.jpgMartha and I left Saturday morning on the bike and rode to Key West. The sky was blue, air was warm, and the traffic was moving well. We took US1 down to mile marker “0” at the furthest southern point in the USA. After our obligatory tourist snapshot, we walked back to our bike to see a policewoman sneaking around behind bushes and shrubs. She was talking into her radio and reporting on the crowd gathered around the marker. It was funny watching her crouch and scurry from bush to shrub, trying to stealthily make her report. I just assumed she was looking for pic-pockets or people of interest. Pictures and videos after the break. Continue reading

Crystal Mountain Vacation

CMResort.jpgMartha and I have joined the Bakos for a spur of the moment three day golfing getaway. Nick had reserved a beautiful and spacious two bedroom suite at the Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, MI. Located in the NW corner of lower Michigan, it is an area that we have not previously enjoyed. So far we have been blessed with amazing weather and vistas of the surrounding golf resort. You can check out a few of our pictures here. Continue reading

Retirement for Martha

Retirement.jpgAs of June 27 Martha was officially retired after 31 years of teaching. She was asked back to plant some trees that was dropped off at the school (not sure why only her?) and she surrendered the school keys on the way out. Martha was able to celebrate the occasion with co-workers at an afternoon school tea/bbq and also an end of year staff party at Bob ‘N’ Buoys Restaurant in Mitchell’s Bay. So far she’s handling the change well and is looking forward to her future travels. Picture albums after the jump. Continue reading

Chatham Retrofest Weekend

retrofestThe 6th Annual Retrofest was held in Chatham this weekend and it seemed to be a well attended event. Friday was the Classic Cruise night and Saturday was the Car Show on King St followed by a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band for a BeachFreeze Party in the evening. The temps during the dance fell down to 10°C and unfortunately the attendance suffered for it. We still had a good time plus our share of the Margaritas. You can check out our photos and a short video after the jump. Continue reading

Lucas on the Catwalk

lucasLucas awoke this morning and nonchalantly mentioned over breakfast, his photoshoot was published on CanadianGeographic’s website.

The Chatham Camera Club was contacted recently (via their website) and asked if CCC would like to be the second photoclub ever featured on CanadianGeographic’s national online magazine. Martha and all the Chatham Camera Club members were invited to submit a couple photos to accompany the article and it was just published this morning. Congrats to Lucas, Martha and the CCC. Happy Birthday Martha and Eileen

oldies but goodiesWhile in Florida, Martha had a big problem with her upcoming 54th birthday. She has never fretted about aging before, but now with retirement in the near future, this mile-marker seemed to hit home. She said all she could think about was the old Beatles song with the lyrics “Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I’m fifty-four.” Luckily she told Eileen her dilemma and concerns who promptly laughed and said not to worry, the correct lyrics are “…when I’m 64“. Disaster averted! Tonight we are invited to Jaclyn’s house for a birthday dinner and celebration.
