The whole fan damely flew into KC for Easter this year to spend the holidays with Steve. We spent Friday and Saturday watching 3 baseball games. Rockhurst vs St Louis and the Hawks took the sweep winning all threes games. Steve did not get a chance to pitch which was what we were hoping to see. He looks great and is enjoying his studies (3.7gpa). He writes his final exams the first week in May. The weather is cold and we were smart to bring ski jackets and gloves. The tulips all over the city are out but drooped in the frost. Cherry blossoms and dogwoods abound and the city looks inviting. We fly home tonight. Check out trip pictures here.
Chicago Day 3
Today turned out to be much nicer weather. The sun was out, no wind and the temp was a relatively balmy 4°C, well at least it felt much warmer than the previous days. Martha wanted to try out a Mexican restaurant in Old Town called Salpicon for their Easter Brunch. Continue reading
Chicago Day 2
Today we visited Shedd’s Aquarium. Picture if you will, a bitter cold wind off the lake, an hour long wait outside in a line, and every damn school kid in Illinois bumping into you once they squeeze everyone inside. Chicago’s current catch phrase for the Gilliers is “Oh… that will be about an hours wait”. Where the heck are all these people coming from? Continue reading
Chicago Long Weekend
I suggested to Tom that we venture off on an Easter road trip this year so to coin the slogan by Marshall Field, “Give the lady what she wants” we set off Friday and headed towards Chicago Illinois. Continue reading
Happy Easter ’07
I hope that everyone has a wonderful Easter Holiday. Can you believe the cold weather that is expected for the weekend! That Calgary snow is coming out east and our spring flowers are shuddering at the thought. I have been going to the gym and watching my diet in preparation for the big chocolate fest. I stepped on the scales this morning and I gained a few…go figure!
A Lifetime of Hockey Comes to an End
The boys hockey has come to an end. Their final game was played in a default as 10 players were away on their March break vacations. We learned of the loss from our condo in Florida. It was a sad way to leave the game for all these boys, this being their last year to play and for Nick to coach. I have done the final laundry. Uniform jerseys, jock strap and skates are hanging on a hook on the wall now. Sweet memories of a lifestyle, culture and friendship to cherish.
Top-O-The-Mornin Ta Ya
Happy Birthday Martha and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to you. Turning 53 ain’t that bad especially if you can celebrate in an Irish Pub. It was nice to be away somewhere warm for my birthday. Florida was lovely this time of year and it was perfect temperatures to sit in a lawn chair and watch baseball games. I really think that the Americans celebrate this day more than the Irish Canadians. Have you seen the u-tube video clip where they colour the river in Chicago Green? Continue reading
Let it shine, let it shine!
Oh what a beautiful spring day in Chatham today. The weather got up to 26ºC, the sun was shining bright, and we could leave our winter coats in the closet. Tom was in his glory as he set out on his motorcycle for an inaugural 2007 spring ride around Kent County. I went to town and had lunch and spent the day with my friend Debbie. Laura went to visit Jason and walk his dog Odie. Even though we ended up going our separate ways today, we all had great fun.
They’re Back
On Saturday morning we got a message from our friend Tom T that the Tundra Swans were back from their short stay down south. They spent the night on Rondeau Bay and had moved up to a field on the Mull Side Road. Tom and I set out on a road trip to check out the flock. Tom had his zoom lens on his camera and got some pretty good shots of these regal birds. I goofed and got some good shots of the top of the truck’s sunroof. Continue reading
Yeah, it is March Break!
When the school bell rang at 3:00 o’clock on March the 9th I cheered. The March Break had finally arrived! Ahhh, now for a relaxing week! I hope everyone can find some time to unwind, some sun and some time to have fun.
