Key Colony Beach

IMG_6025.jpgYeah… we are here. The house is amazing — big, comfy, everything anyone would need! We got here around noon. Check in was not suppose to be until 4pm but the house was unlocked, instructions and keys in the kitchen so we moved on in.

The bike traveled well and Tom unloaded it in a flash. After unpacking the car we went on the motorcycle to Sparky’s Landing for raw oysters and fish tacos (delicious) for lunch. Then back to the house to get our bearings, test out the beds, lay in the sunshine and make out a grocery list. It is 5pm and we are going out for happy hour. 25 cent wings and 25 cent shrimp and 1 dollar drafts. Life is Good!
Photos and Video after the break. Continue reading

Gateway to the Keys

Today we drove down the east coast of Florida from St Augustine to Florida City. What a long state Florida is. It seemed like we were driving all day and it was only 6hrs. Fort Lauderdale and Miami had lots of traffic and just looked like big cities so we were glad we bypassed them. The sun shone for the better part of the day but we did see a few sprinkles around Jupiter. Continue reading

OJ, Sun and Fun

It was an interesting drive going through Georgia today. We saw fields of cotton and peanuts and all kinds of fancy irrigation devices. You could see the forests change from Carolinian to Savannah with the moss hanging off the branches and palms appeared, lining the roadway. We were glad to see the mercury on the thermometer slowly rise the further we traveled south. Continue reading

Day two takes us through 3 States.

We both slept very well last night and woke up early to enjoy a free breakfast at the Dry Ridge Holiday Inn. Once on the road we noticed the States are pouring some money into their infra structure and fixing up their roads…lots of construction but no holdups. The trip through Kentucky went by very smoothly and before we knew it we were in the Cumberland Gap area enjoying the hills and hollows. Continue reading

Happy New Year Everyone

happy_new_year.jpgWell 2008 certainly has been exciting. If the sudden downturn in the stock market didn’t make you cry, the flood in the basement did!. What a curse and a blessing all wrapped into one. It has been the new age Noah’s arc. Two by two they went into retrieve, recovery and deduce mode. You are starting the new year 2009 with a clean, fresh start. Baby steps from here on in. The burden has been lifted or should I say “washed away”. I’ll toast my new years glass to the survivors of 2008. Cheers!!!

Tom Celebrates in Style

bd_thai_meal.jpgWith the corn harvest finally completed for the year, Tom was finally able to leisurely enjoy his birthday. Jackie visited for the afternoon and surprised her dad with an antique razor. Laura gave him some Proraso shaving soap, chocolates and a gift certificate to his favourite eatery. So you know what that meant, Martha didn’t have to cook! We all ate royally at The Rice and Noodle enjoying spring rolls, tom yum and coconut soup, lemongrass chicken, shrimp fried rice, cashew chicken, red curry beef, chicken pad thai and steamed jasmine rice. Truly a feast for a king! We returned home and cut into Laura’s famous Swiss carrot and almond cake. It was a fun celebration had by all. Happy Birthday Tom! A few more pictures can be found here.
